Just a week after announcing the 2025 Goeller Cup Champion, ChatGPT has taken data, information, and input for 2026 to predict the next Goeller Cup Champion. The result? Another new class period will be crowned, according to the AI website. Period 4 Fitzgeralds is the odds-on favorite to win the 2026 Goeller Cup, thanks in large part to their enrollment demographic of being all students who placed in the top 3 in this year's competition. Next year, Period 4 will be Dual Enrollment French, a concurrent class offered through UNLV. Any current French 2 or 3 students is eligible to take it, so they will be the class period with the most experience next year.
Second-best odds is the reigning class period, Bellagio (6th). Despite being a French II Honors class next year, the students who will make up this period will also be bringing one year of experience to the table. The same is true for Period 7 The Strat, who comes in with third-best odds. Both of these class periods will be searching for their second title, while all of the students in them will be looking for their first.
Period 3 Caesars is fourth but alongside Period 8 Sahara and the newly-rebranded Period 5 Stardust, all French 1 classes, the student rosters in these classes will all be rookies to the Goeller Cup Playoffs. The history books would say not to ever count out Period 3, since it is the winningest class period in the playoffs, statsitically. But the same could be said for Period 8 as the most successful regular season class in terms of points scored, or Period 5, which is one of only two classes to have ever won two regular-season titles.
Next year will bring new challenges, new obstacles, new achievements, and new success. Along with it, a new set of Goeller Cup Champions who will have their names added to French Class History.
2026 Goeller Cup Champion Odds:
Period 4 Fitzgeralds | Dual Enrollment French | +185
Period 6 Bellagio | French 2 Honors | +300
Period 7 The Strat | French 2 Honors | +455
Period 3 Caesars Palace | French 1 | +900
Period 8 Sahara | French 1 | +1325
Period 5 Stardust | French 1 | +1800

Goeller Cup Champion Bellagio was the lowest-earning class for the entirety of the fourth quarter with 1,179 points earned over the final 9-weeks. Despite being the lowest-earning class, they proved that the most points don't win championships. Of course, their lower point total was partially fueled by their smaller roster and their lack of first round opponent. Conversely, Period 3 was the highest-earning class, with 1,538 points in quarter 4. Both French II classes, Period 7 and Period 4, earned the same amount of points in the 4th quarter: 1,347.
The highest earning students were also revealed and runner-up class, Period 4, posted the top 2 students in the quarter with Santiago earning 151 points and Sebastian earning 147. Goeller Cup MVP Jaekob finished 3rd with 145. Period 3's highest earner, Valerie, ranked 4th, having earned 116 points. Rounding out the top 5 was Valerie's brother and Period 4 student, Valentin, who earned 106 points.

Period 6 "Bellagio" has won the 2025 Goeller Cup after defeating Period 4 "Fitzgeralds" 4-1 in the Goeller Cup Final. For the period, it's the first championship, but for nine students, it is history. Of the 15 students in the French III class, 9 are previous Goeller Cup Champions. Two, Alex L. and Remi, have never lost the Goeller Cup Championship at Las Vegas High School, earning their third consecutive trophy in the victory. For Alex S., Garrett, Silo, Hayde, Blu, and Jaekob it's their second consecutive Goeller Cup, while Gabriel earns his second after winning with Period 2 in 2023.
Period 6 dominated the final, leading the series after each day cycle: on Day 1 Bellagio led 3-2, then led 4-1 for the next two classes before Period 4 brought it back to a 3-2 series on day four. The final series score is 4-1, Bellagio.
Period 6 earned the fewest points of all classes during the fourth quarter en route to their Goeller Cup Championship, proving that what matters is knowing how to win, not amassing points randomly.
The official announcement comes in classes tomorrow!
Monday, 12 May 2025
The 2025 Goeller Cup Playoffs concluded today, with all three B-day classes competing in their final day of competition. For Periods 4 and 6, it was the last day of the 2025 Goeller Cup Final, meaning a championship class has been crowned! The results will not be revealed until Wednesday, 14 May in class for these two classes, both of whom who worked hard to reach the ultimate French class competition goal: winning the Goeller Cup. Period 6 entered Monday's classes with a 3-2 lead, but where the series ended up is still to be known. Check back on Wendesday for the final report.
Elsewhere, today Period 8 Sahara closed out their consolation series with Period 5 Sam's Town, earning a 4-1 victory to take 5th place. Sam's Town, who entered the playoffs ranked 6th, finish last in the playoffs. Last week on Friday, Period 7 The Strat defeated Period 3 Caesars Palace by a 3-2 score to win the bronze medal. Students can expect to receive their medals in class tomorrow, 13 May 2025.

For Period 7, their 3-2 victory over Period 3 marks a moment of redemption after a tough semi-final loss to Period 4. During class, the Strat will be awarded their bronze medals on Tuesday, May 13.

Thursday, 8 May 2025
Four of the five days in the final round of the 2025 Goeller Cup Playoffs have come and gone. Now, with just one day remaining in each series, let's breakdown where we stand in each one.
Fitzgeralds Surges, Bellagio Holds On
The fourth day of the Goeller Cup Final brought fireworks — with Team Fitzgeralds turning up the heat and making this championship clash a true nail-biter. Here's how the two contenders stack up after four days:
🔢 Current Category Standings
Total Points: ✅ Fitzgeralds leads 307 to 276 (Momentum swing: +98 points across last 2 days)
Points Per Student: ✅ Bellagio leads 18.40 to 17.06 (Bellagio remains the more efficient scorer per student)
Positive Percentage: ✅ Bellagio leads 98.22% to 97.46% (Steady consistency for Bellagio in positive behavior)
French Percentage: ✅ Fitzgeralds leads 24.76% to 22.42% (Both teams tied in raw French points at 63, but Fitzgeralds edges ahead in %)
Highest Student Earner: ✅ Bellagio leads 34 to 30 (Fitzgeralds is closing in but Bellagio maintains the top spot)
Fitzgeralds needs to hold on to Total Points and French % and somehow flip either Highest Student or Positive % to win. Meanwhile, Bellagio’s strength in efficiency and behavior still gives them the edge in 3 of the 5 categories, but it’s fragile. Day 5 will decide everything. This series is living up to the hype — it's 2-2 in guaranteed categories, and Highest Student is still in play. What looked like a certain Period 6 victory on day 3 has become more of a tighter series heading to the final day.
The bronze series will be the first decided, as both classes complete their final day of competition tomorrow, Friday 9 May. The numbers in this series remain extremely close, with the lead alternating from day-to-day. The classes are separated by just 8 points in the total points category. Since their roster numbers are so similar, that means that average points are also still close, nearly within 0.5 points. Positive percentage also is extremely tight. Both classes have lost 9 points through four days so with even negative points, the class with more points is favored in this category now. Caesars has opened an 8-point lead in highest student, leaning this category more in their favor, meaning that it could come down to French usage to decide the bronze medalist. Currently, Caesars holds it with 17% (vs. 10%).
Sam's Town is keeping the series as close as they can in the final day, despite having been mostly out of the series for weeks. Now a sustained lead in total points, they have also managed to hold onto highest student for two classes in a row. The question remains, where can the fifth-period class make up points on their final day to win the series? Their most likely category to flip? French usage. With a stellar final day in this category, they could flip it in their favor while holding total points and highest student. That would be enough to secure a 5th-place finish. If not, 8th-period will maintain their advantage and they could potentially earn a 4-1 win if their highest students show up on the final day.
🏆 Series Outlook:
Goeller Cup Final: Bellagio favored to win.
Bronze Series: Toss up series.
Nickel Series: Sahara favored to win.
Tuesday, 6 May 2025
There are just four class days of competition remaining in the 2025 Goeller Cup Playoffs as Monday and Tuesday pass. Overall point earnings were lower to start this week as Mr. Bracken celebrated STAR WARS day with the arrival of a "substitute teacher" from a galaxy far, far away.
The Goeller Cup Final has reached the halfway mark, and one thing is crystal clear — Bellagio came ready to make history. With just two days remaining, here’s how Day 3 -- STAR WARS DAY -- shook out:
🔥 Bellagio pulls ahead in 4 out of 5 categories, inching closer to the Goeller Cup title
📈 Fitzgeralds still holds the edge in Total Points, showing they haven’t backed down
🚀 Bellagio's Positive Percentage surges again, solidifying their control of consistency
🗣️ French usage drops for both squads, but Fitzgeralds closes the gap slightly
🌟 Highest Student Earner race heats up as Bellagio’s standout climbs to 25 points
📊 Points per student continues to favor Bellagio, flexing their efficiency
⚖️ The margin is slim in multiple categories — a momentum shift could still flip this series
Bellagio isn’t celebrating just yet, but they’ve put themselves in pole position heading into the championship homestretch.
Bellagio's odds to win the Goeller Cup are impressive as they take on a new face as the expected winners, holding betting-line odds of -567, nearly an 85% win probability. That leaves Fitzgeralds as the ultimate underdogs sitting at roughly 15% odds of victory. However, it is never over until the end!
The most closely contested series is currently for third place as Caesars and Strat battle for bronze in their 5-day finals matchup. The edge lies with 7th period at the moment, leading in 3 categories. They lead total points (278-237), average (9.59-8.78), and positivity (97-96%). Period 3 maintains advantages in French usage (14-8%) and highest student (17-13).
Despite the scoring being close, the series has felt out of reach for Sam's Town for some time now. With just two classes remaining, the 5th period class has not led the series since the second day of competition and has only gotten as close, recently, as being down 2-3. Currently trailing 1-4, the 5th-period class will need to stellar final days to turn the tides in their favor. Sahara is cruising to an easy victory that could end up as a clean sweep, if they can manage to out-point Period 5 by just 9 points over the remaining two days.
🏆 Series Outlook:
Goeller Cup Final: Bellagio leads 4-1 [Day 3 of 5]
Bronze Series: Strat leads 3-2 [Day 3 of 5]
Nickel Series: Sahara leads 4-1 [Day 10 of 12]

The battle for Total Points is extremely close — just a 2-point gap separates the two.
Every category is still in play: No team has locked anything down yet. With three days left, even a 4–1 daily lead isn’t safe—especially with such narrow margins.
With three days to go, the door is wide open for a comeback in the Finals! Bellagio's greatest strength is having half of their roster as former or defending champions, meaning they know how to get it done when it matters most. That doesn't mean that Fitzgeralds can't battle back.

The Goeller Cup Bronze Series is living up to its billing, as Caesars and Strat battle for third place in a spirited, high-energy consolation clash. After two intense days of competition, Caesars holds a narrow 3–2 lead in the five-category matchup — but the margin for error is razor-thin.

Caesars continues to thrive in the high-impact categories: Points Per Student, French output, and standout student performance.
The battle for Total Points is extremely close — just a 6-point gap separates the two.
French Percentage may end up being the wild card: Caesars is outpacing Strat nearly 2-to-1.
With three days to go, the door is wide open for a comeback — or for Caesars to shut it entirely. Strat has shown signs of life in precision-based metrics, while Caesars is leaning hard into depth and momentum. Buckle up — bronze is still very much in play.
Strat: +130 (implied probability: 43.5%)
Caesars: -160 (implied probability: 61.5%)
Tomorrow is the second day of five competition days in the championship series between Fitzgeralds and Bellagio. Bellagio leads the series 3-2 after one day of class competition.
Wednesday, 30 April 2025

Highest Student Earner: Fitzgeralds leads 9 ✅ to 8
Bellagio wins Total Points and Points Per Student by razor-thin margins, showcasing their all-around class participation.
Fitzgeralds takes French Percentage and Highest Student Earner, led by a strong 9-point individual showing and top-tier language use.
Positive Percentage is essentially tied, with Bellagio winning by just 0.04%.
Bellagio is still the slight favorite, but Fitzgeralds' strength in French percentage and top individual performance has made this a much tighter race.
Bellagio: -130 (implied probability: 56.5%)
Fitzgeralds: +110 (implied probability: 47.6%)
Bellagio takes a 3-2 series lead, currently leading in 3 out of 5 categories, but with the margins this tight, both teams are still firmly in the hunt. This final is shaping up to be a classic.
Tuesday, 22 April 2025
After five days of elite-level academic combat, Fitzgeralds has emerged victorious in a legendary semifinal series, edging out Strat 3–2 to punch their ticket to the 2025 Goeller Cup Final. This matchup had everything — record-breaking stats, razor-thin margins, and heavyweight clashes in every category.
Let’s dive into what made this series an instant classic.
Total Points: Strat wins, 617 ✅ vs. 521
Points Per Student: Fitzgeralds wins, 30.65 ✅ vs. 21.28
Positive Percentage: Fitzgeralds wins, 95.07% ✅ vs. 95.06%
French Percentage: Strat wins, 34.67% ✅ vs. 34.12%
Highest Student Earner: Fitzgeralds wins, 60 ✅ vs. 53
FITZGERALDS WINS SERIES 3–2
🔁 A Series of Swings:
Momentum flipped day to day as both teams surged in different categories. Strat’s deep scoring and language usage made them dangerous every round, while Fitzgeralds relied on top-tier individual performances and consistent positivity to steal the edge.
📈 Record-Breaking Numbers:
French Points: Strat tallied a Goeller Cup record 225 French points — an average of 45 per day.
Points Per Student: Fitzgeralds soared to a 30.65 average, showcasing exceptional engagement across a smaller roster.
Top Student Score: Fitzgeralds’ top performer exploded for 60 points, one of the highest playoff marks ever, second only to Bellagio's tally from this round.
⚖️ The Tightest Category Yet:
The Positive Percentage category — usually a sign of discipline and cohesion — came down to a mere 0.01%. Fitzgeralds narrowly edged out Strat, 95.07% to 95.06%, claiming the category and the series with it.
With this win, Fitzgeralds advances to the Goeller Cup Final, where they will face Bellagio, another squad riding a wave of record-setting performances. Fitzgeralds will look to carry over their per-student firepower, while Bellagio’s legendary 67-point top student and ultra-efficient scoring strategy make them formidable. For Fitzgeralds, it is the first time that a fouth-period class has advanced to the Goeller Cup Final, meaning that every class period has played in the final round at least once. It also means that there will be a new first-time champion, as neither a Period 4 nor 6 class has ever won the Goeller Cup.
Strat, meanwhile, exits the tournament as perhaps the strongest semifinal team to not reach the final in Goeller Cup history — a team that rewrote the record books and left its mark on every statistical column, finishing just 0.01% away from potentially sweeping the school year and earning the first ever back-to-back championship for a class period.
The Fitzgeralds vs. Bellagio final is shaping up to be a showdown of strengths:
Firepower vs. Efficiency
Big Plays vs. Balanced Depth
Clutch vs. Consistent
One team will etch their name into Goeller Cup history.
Stay tuned. The Final awaits. 🏆

Let’s dive into the final results, standout moments, and what it all means moving forward.
Despite Caesars setting a Goeller Cup playoff record with 624 total points, it wasn’t enough to overpower Bellagio’s elite consistency and efficiency. Bellagio takes the series by narrowly winning three critical categories:
Total Points: Caesars wins, 624 ✅ vs. 527
Points Per Student: Bellagio wins, 35.13 ✅ vs. 23.11

Caesars’ volume game was unmatched, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Bellagio’s surgical efficiency and class-wide participation.

In a semifinal showdown that’s living up to every ounce of its hype, Strat and Fitzgeralds continue to trade blows like seasoned heavyweights. After four days of intense competition, Fitzgeralds holds the statistical edge in three of the five categories—but Strat isn’t going anywhere quietly. The Strat piled on the points in Day 4, pushing their total score to 502—a commanding lead over Fitzgeralds’ 396. Strat’s aggressive pace and consistent production across the roster have them owning the Total Points and Positive Percentage categories, boasting a 96.72% rate of positivity to Fitzgeralds’ 94.29%. But don’t count out the Fitz crew. Despite trailing in volume, they’re winning the efficiency game.
Strat has now crossed the 500-point mark and is showing no signs of slowing down. Their steady daily climb and commitment to teamwide contributions could be the X-factor down the stretch. But Fitzgeralds’ sharp execution and category control make them a formidable opponent.
📊 Current Category Breakdown (After Day 4 of 5):
Total Points: Strat leads, 502 vs. 396 ✅
Points Per Student: Fitzgeralds leads, 23.29 vs. 17.31 ✅
Positive Percentage: Strat leads, 96.72% vs. 94.29% ✅
French Percentage: Fitzgeralds leads, 31.43% vs. 30.06% ✅
Highest Student Earner: Fitzgeralds leads, 44 vs. 38 ✅
Fitzgeralds leads the series 3-2
With just one category (French Percentage) hovering in toss-up territory, the next two days could be decisive. If Fitzgeralds holds the line, they’ll punch their ticket to the Goeller Cup Final. But if Strat can make a leap in French or find another standout performance, this could go the distance.
🔮 Series Outlook:
Fitzgeralds leads 3-2, and their hold on French Percentage is solid but not unbreakable. Strat has closed the gap slightly, but they’ll need a jump in French or a standout student surge to win.
Category Confidence:
✅ Locked for Strat: Total Points, Positive %
✅ Likely Fitzgeralds: Points Per Student, Highest Student
⚠️ Lean Fitzgeralds: French Percentage
📉 Series Forecast:
Fitzgeralds controls more categories, but Strat’s high-volume output keeps them dangerous.
The Strat: +105 (48.8% chance to win series)
Fitzgeralds: -125 (55.6% chance to win)
WHAT'S NEXT?
Both semifinals are tight 3-2 affairs. But in each case, only one toss-up category stands between victory and elimination. Every day counts now—expect bold plays, focused energy, and maybe even a buzzer-beater moment.

The second semifinal of the 2025 Goeller Cup Playoffs is heating up fast, as Caesars and Bellagio continue to trade blows in what’s shaping up to be a legendary clash. After four full days of competition, the two teams are deadlocked in a 2-2 statistical tie, with one razor-thin category likely to decide who marches into the finals.
This matchup has become a heated battle between level 2 French classes. Fitzgeralds holds the keys at this moment.
📊 Current Category Breakdown (After Day 4 of 5):
Total Points: Caesars leads, 480 vs. 410 ✅
Points Per Student: Bellagio leads, 27.33 vs. 17.78 ✅
Positive Percentage: Caesars leads, 97.36% vs. 96.70% ✅
French Percentage: Bellagio leads, 27.83% vs. 27.79% ✅
Highest Student Earner: Bellagio leads, 49 vs. 34 ✅
Bellagio leads 3-2
The French Percentage race is so tight it could shift on a single student interaction. Bellagio holds a narrow edge at 27.83%, just ahead of Caesars at 27.79%. That’s a 0.04% difference, making this the ultimate swing category. If either team can sharpen their French language output in the final stretch, it could tip the entire series.
🔮 Series Outlook:
With just one or two critical days remaining, this semifinal hangs in the balance. Caesars may hold the volume edge, but Bellagio is closing with momentum, and their students continue to impress on an individual level.
If Bellagio can slightly edge Caesars in French usage again and maintain their lead in points per student and student leader, they’ll claim the 3-of-5 categories needed for a trip to the Goeller Cup Final.
But if Caesars reclaims French and holds their ground in positive and total points? The Vegas-themed squad will punch its ticket instead.
Odds Update:
Caesars Palace: -130 (56.5% chance to win series)
Bellagio: +110 (47.6% chance to win)
WHAT'S NEXT?
This matchup will come down to the wire and could be decided by razor-thin margins. Caesars will complete their last day tomorrow, while Bellagio has to wait until Monday to close out, due to no school on Friday.
In the meantime, The Strat will look to change the tides of their series against Fitzgeralds tomorrow with their fouth-day competition.

While Caesars fended off a surging Bellagio to hold their edge, Fitzgeralds roared back into contention against top-seeded Strat by maintaining their category-shifting day 2 performance on day 3. The 2025 Goeller Cup Playoffs continue this week as the Semi-Finals matchups are set to start on Monday when Caesars Palace completes their first day of competition. This year, starting in the semi-final round, the higher-seeded classes were given the opportunity to choose whether they would like to start their playoff series before or after their opponent, potentially giving the higher-seeded class an advantage by being able to see their competitor's scores on a daily basis. This new trend will be implemented for both the 2025 Semi-Finals and 2025 Goeller Cup Final rounds. Top-ranked Strat (Period 7) will decide if they would like to start their semi-final round on Monday or if they would like to defer their first day so that their French II-Honors adversary, Fitzgeralds, has to start play first. Meanwhile second-ranked Bellagio voted on Caesars Palace starting off first.
Both Fitzgeralds and Caesars Palace are favored to advance to the Goeller Cup Finals after their first-round victories. Period 4 classes have never advanced to the final round, the only class period that has never played in the ultimate round of the playoffs, while alongside Period 6 as two of the three classes that have never won the Goeller Cup. Period 7 and Period 3 are chasing history with a chance to become the first class period to ever win a second Goeller Cup Championship. Period 7 could do so by winning back-to-back championships. Period 6 could produce new two-time Goeller Cup Champions as well as the first-ever three-time Goeller Cup Champions.
Below are the expected schedules for the Semi-Finals, with The Strat set to decide on Monday, April 7 if they would like to start their playoffs before or after Fitzgeralds. Scheduling notes for the Semi-Finals: No school/competition on Friday, April 18.

The Wildcard A-Day showdown between Caesars Palace and Sam’s Town came to a thrilling conclusion this morning, with Caesars securing a 3-2 series victory. The matchup was closely contested throughout the five-day battle, but crucial late-game surges in Total Points and French Points propelled Caesars to victory.
Key Statistical Breakdown:
Total Points: Sam’s Town (553) ✅ vs. Caesars (502)
Points Per Student: Caesars (18.59) ✅ vs. Sam’s Town (16.26)

French Percentage: Caesars (21.99%) ✅ vs. Sam’s Town (18.21%)
Highest Student Earner: Sam’s Town (46) ✅ vs. Caesars (44)
The Decisive Final Day:
Heading into the final day, Sam’s Town led the series 3-2, needing to hold onto key categories to seal the win. However, Caesars had a massive late surge, gaining 130 points on the final day alone, compared to Sam’s Town’s increase of 126. The difference in Total Points allowed Caesars to close the gap and claim a crucial category: French usage. Caesars put up 47 additional French Points from Day 4 to Day 5, surpassing their opponent's total in the category. The increase lifted Caesars to a French Percentage of 21.99%, outpacing Sam’s Town’s final mark of 18.21% and securing the third category needed for the victory.
Tied Record
Despite falling short, Sam's Town did produce a record-tying point total in the highest student category. Class leader Mariam earned 46 points in the five-day competition, tying the record set in 2022 at Millbrook High School by a student in Period 8.
With this win, Caesars advances to the 2025 Goeller Cup Semi-Finals against Period 6, Bellagio. The win marks the sixth time in seven years and six time in six opportunities that Period 3 advanced to the Semi-Final round. Period 3 continues to hold the title of the winningest playoff class, with this being the 10th playoff win for 3rd Period in the history of the competition.
For Sam's Town, they lose out on an opportunity that was theirs for the taking, falling just short in their French usage, but advance to the 5th-Place consolation game with a chance to still earn a bonus prize for the end of the year. The 5th Period class will face the loser of the B-Day wildcard between Sahara and Fitzgeralds, which will come to a conclusion tomorrow afternoon.
Thursday, 3 April 2025
Today is the final A-day of wildcard matchups in round 1 of the 2025 Goeller Cup Playoffs. In just a few hours, either Period 3 or Period 5 will advance to the semi-final round and tomorrow, the same will happen for either Period 4 or Period 8. Both series are tight races that could flip in favor of either class. Caesars needs an impressive final day, with their eye on a 120+ point day to turn the series back in their favor. Sam's Town can really put the pressure on if they have another 100-point day, which would force Caesars into needing a 150+ point day to regain momentum. Both classes will need to minimize point losses on the final day to advance.
Tomorrow, Period 4 will look to regain their upperhand in the series after a lackluster day 4. Trailing total points by over 120, they will need an impressive day to try and close the gap, which will bring them closer in some of the other categories, as well. While Fitzgeralds are in a good position for the average point and French usage categories, they will need to flip one category back in their favor to win and they'll be looking to do that in highest student or positive percentage. Sahara, on the otherhand, just needs to maintain their pace and trend. As long as they minimize their point losses on Friday, they are in a good position to advance, especially with minimal points losses which could flip the positive percentage category to their favor.

🔹 Can Caesars reclaim French Percentage or make a push in total scoring?
🔹 Will Sam’s Town close out the series or can Caesars fight back?
🔹 A single category swing could change everything—which team will step up?
This Wildcard battle is reaching a thrilling climax! With just two classes remaining in the A-Day Wildcard battle, the series is shaping up for a close finish. Monday will see the third competition day for the B-Day Wildcard, with both series concluding by the end of next week.

The second day of competition between Team Fitzgerald and Team Sahara saw Sahara expand their lead, continuing their strong scoring pace. While Fitzgerald holds its ground in efficiency-based categories, Sahara’s total scoring dominance has put them in the driver’s seat heading into Day 3. After another high-scoring day for Sahara, they now hold a 3-2 category advantage. Fitzgerald remains efficient but must find a way to close the gap in overall points to stay in contention.
✅ Sahara Leads:
Total Points (170 vs. 114)
French Percentage (21.31% vs. 20.00%)
Highest Individual Scorer (16 points vs. 11 points)
✅ Fitzgerald Holds the Edge In:
Points Per Student (6.71 vs. 5.86)
Positive Percentage (95.00% vs. 92.90%)
🔥 Sahara extends their total points lead, outscoring Fitzgerald 58-45 on Day 2.
🔥 French Percentage flips in Sahara’s favor, now leading by a small margin (21.31% vs. 20.00%).
⚖️ Fitzgerald remains more efficient, holding onto Points Per Student and Positive Percentage despite trailing in total points.
Sahara: -180 (64% chance to win) → Leading 3/5 categories & controlling Total Points.
Fitzgerald: +140 (36% chance to win) → Still strong in efficiency but needs a momentum shift.
🔹 Can Fitzgerald cut into Sahara’s lead in Total Points while holding onto their efficiency advantage?
🔹 Will Sahara continue their dominant scoring pace, or will Fitzgerald find a way to flip a category?
🔹 French Percentage is still tight—could a swing here shift the odds?
The Wildcard battle is heating up! Stay tuned for more updates as Day 3 unfolds in this thrilling showdown. Who will advance to the next round of the Goeller Cup?

The battle between Caesars and Sam’s Town is heating up as the Wildcard Round enters its midway point. After a closely contested Day 1, where Caesars held a slight edge, Sam’s Town stormed back on Day 2, flipping the momentum in their favor. With an explosive 104-point performance on Day 2, Sam’s Town extended their lead in the total points category, 201 to 168. This shift is a major swing from Day 1, where Caesars was still within striking distance. Despite Sam’s Town’s explosive 104-point performance on Day 2, Caesars remains in control of the overall matchup. With three days remaining, Caesars holds a slight favorite status (-130 odds, 57% chance to advance), while Sam’s Town sits at +110 (43%).
Despite the shift in total points, the competition remains razor-close in other key categories:
✅ Sam’s Town Leads:
Total Points (201 vs. 168)
✅ Caesars Holds Strong In:
Points Per Student (6.22 vs. 5.91)
Positive Percentage (94.38% vs. 91.78%)
French Percentage (22.47% vs. 21.92%)
Highest Individual Scorer (14 points vs. 12 points)
🔄 French Percentage is Nearly Tied!
Caesars: 22.47%
Sam’s Town: 21.92%
This category could become a deciding factor as the matchup progresses.
Sam’s Town’s surge in total points has put them in the lead for the first time this round. They will look to extend their advantage as the matchup progresses. Caesars continues to dominate in three categories (Positive Percentage, French Percentage, and Points Per Student), which keeps them in a strong position despite trailing in total points. French Percentage remains very close, with Caesars maintaining a slim lead. A shift here could further impact the odds.
Will Caesars close the gap in total points while holding onto their category leads?
Can Sam’s Town maintain their offensive dominance and push further ahead?
With French Percentage and Positive Percentage still in Caesars’ favor, will Sam’s Town make a push to flip these categories?
The Wildcard battle is far from over! Stay tuned for more updates as Day 3 unfolds in this thrilling matchup. Who will take one step closer to the Goeller Cup? Check back tomorrow for the latest stats, trends, and odds updates from Wildcard 2 and further updates on this match up on Friday!

The B-Day Wildcard matchup between 4th Period Fitzgeralds and 8th Period Sahara started today as both classes completed their first days of the fouth quarter and competition. Sahara holds a 4-1 lead heading into the middle of the week. Their total of 112 points currently leads all classes and they are the only class with a cumulative points total over 100. Sahara also dominated Fitzgeralds in French points in day one, earning more than five-times the points for speaking/using French. Sahara leads in positive points (93.3% vs. 92.0%) and highest student (11-7) while Fitzgerald maintains an edge in point per student (4.06 vs. 3.86). After an impressive first day, the series odds have shifted in favor of Sahara to claim victory, currently pulling -300 odds, roughly equivalent to a 75% chance of victory, according to the official odds maker of the Goeller Cup Playoffs: ChatGTP.

The 2024-2025 school year is 75% complete which means the French Class League's regular season has officially ended and the Goeller Cup Playoffs are on the horizon. Week 10 matchups were pivotal to deciding the final ranking for the 2025 playoffs, most notably the matchup between Bellagio and Caesars Palace, who were battling for 2nd place in the standings, separated by just a point. In the end, Bellagio snuck out a 15-14 victory to move into second place and earn their automatic berth into the Goeller Cup Semi-Final round.
The Strat earned their 17th victory of the school year by defeating Sam's Town 9-6, allowing Sahara to move up in the standings, pending their result against Fitzgeralds. Those two classes tied, setting a new record for the most points earned in a weekly matchup under this format, with both earning 16 points. The tie ensured that Fitzgeralds maintained their fourth-place ranking and allowed Sahara to move up to fifth-place.
Now, the 2025 Goeller Cup Playoffs are set to begin after spring break on March 24. The Strat and Bellagio earned first-round byes and will await their first matchups of the playoffs in the semi-final round. Third-ranked Caesars Palace will play sixth-ranked Sam's Town in an A-Day matchup with the winner advancing to play Bellagio in the Semi-Finals. The Strat will play the winner of fourth-ranked Fitzgeralds versus fifth-ranked Sahara.
Playoff predictions are available here until the start of school on March 24.
Thursday, 13 March 2025
The end of the regular season has arrived with tomorrow's B-day classes wrapping up the 10th week of competition. Finishing today, The Strat earned their 17th win of the season, maxing out their point total for the season at 43, thanks to a 9-6 victory over Sam's Town. The fifth-period class took their seventh loss of the round-robin tournament and now is in danger of dropping to sixth place in the standings, pending the result of this week's Fitzgeralds-Sahara matchup, scheduled to conclude tomorrow.
All eyes continue to be on the matchup between Bellagio and Caesars, the winner of which will take second place in the standings and earn an automatic berth into the semi-finals. Period 3 has shown great resilience this week to hold pace with Period 6, but the latter will have the final say with their final class day advantage tomorrow.
Friday, 7 March 2025
Week 9 offered no clarity towards the final standings of the 2025 French Class League and the playoff rankings for the 2025 Goeller Cup Playoffs. The final week's matchups will determine all remaining positions, 2-6, in the standings. Thanks in large part to a 9-9 tie between Bellagio and Sam's Town, Caesars was able to move back into second position. The third-period class, this week, scored a 12-10 win over Sahara, but they are now just one point ahead of Bellagio, following their tie. These two classes play each other in the final week, with an opportunity to win their way into the Semi-Finals for both classes. Bellagio has the advantage of next week's competitions being through a B-Week.
The bottom half of the standings is still completely up for grabs. With Sahara playing Fitzgeralds in the final week, the winner will likely end up with a fourth-place rank. If Sahara wins, they will leapfrog Fitzgerald, thanks to holding more wins. If Sam's Town, who plays the Strat in week 10, loses, they will drop to 6th in the standings (unless Sahara also loses). Though all spots except for first are up for grabs, all attention will be on the play for second place and an automatic advance into the Semi-Finals.
The Strat defeated Fitzgeralds 9-5 this week and surpassed the 40-point threshold, becoming the first class in LCF history to achieve such a point total.
Friday, 28 February 2025
The Strat (Period 7) locked up the first overall spot in the standings of the 2025 French Class League and, subsequently, will be ranked first for the 2025 Goeller Cup Playoffs. They will play the winner of the 4 vs. 5 matchup in the semi-final round. Period 7 is the only class to have currently secured their place in the standings, propelled to first thanks in large part to their successful 1st semester in the French Class Olympics. Ranking first is important based on the history of the Goeller Cup Playoffs, as every year the first-ranked team has advanced to the final. Period 7 could become the third period in three years to advance to back-to-back finals (Period 3 in 2022 & 2023, Period 2 in 2023 & 2024).
The Strat lost their week 8 matchup against Bellagio this week but managed to secure the first-place ranking thanks to Caesars' 10-8 loss to Fitzgeralds. In the round-robin, Bellagio now paces the league with a record of 6-2-0 for 12 points, one more than Strat (5-1-1, 11). Bellagio moved into second place in the standings this week in a tight race for second place against Caesars which could come down to the final week when the two classes face off for the final time in the regular season. Sahara (Period 8) defeated Sam's Town (Period 5) to move into fifth place in the standings, tying Sam's in points but having one more win.
Heading into the final weeks, the standings are divided on which teams can finish where. With the Strat having locked up first place, Caesars and Bellagio are left battling for second place. Fitzgeralds can only finish as high as fourth but it's still anyone's game in the bottom half of the standings.
Friday, 21 February 2025
The Strat (Period 7) secured a top-2 ranking in the 2025 French Class League in week 7 after defeating Sahara, 13-10. They sit atop the standings with a 5-point advantage over Caesars and have an opportunity to secure the number one overall spot next week. To win the regular season title for the second consecutive year, the seventh-period class has a few options: by defeating Bellagio, with a loss by Caesars, or if both classes tie in their respective week 8 matchups.
Caesars maintained pace with the Strat by scoring the most points in a week under this competition format with a 15-9 win over Sam's Town. Bellagio also kept pace by defeating Fitzgeralds 12-11, but the Strat's win puts them out of reach with the time remaining in the round-robin.
Thursday, 20 February 2025
Defending Goeller Cup Champion and 2024 French Class Olympic Champions, The Strat, will look to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the 2025 Goeller Cup Playoffs. The 7th-period class will accomplish the feat if they defeat Sahara tomorrow; currently trailing by 6 points. A win ensures that the Strat cannot finish lower than 2nd place in the regular season standings but they could wrap up first place overall if Caesars manages to lose their matchup against Sam's Town. Regardless, the Strat controls their own fate and they are in great position to win the regular season for the second consecutive year. Although none of these students were a part of the 2024 championship class, they have a chance to help write a piece of the Period 7 history by becoming the first class to officially win two regular season titles (Period 5 won the 2019 regular season and was awarded the 2020 regular season title due to school closures in March of 2020) and, potentially, the first class period to win 2 Goeller Cups. They can take the first step towards these historic feats in class on Friday.
Friday, 14 February 2025
French Class League Week 6 is over and the Strat moved closer to securing a spot in the top 2 of the standings and earning an automatic berth into the semi-final round of the 2025 Goeller Cup Playoffs with a victory against Caesars, 7-6. Bellagio also gained ground in the standings thanks to the Strat's win, defeating Sahara 5-4. The win brought the six-period class to within 2 points of second place (Bellagio holds the tie-breaker). Fitzgerald earned another win, their third in their past four matches, having defeated Sam's Town 8-7. The Strat had 37 points in the standings, a 5-point lead over Caesars. With four weeks to go, only Caesars and Bellagio could still earn enough points to pass the Strat, if they won out the remainder of their seasons. Fitzgerald and Sam's Town had a season point possible total of 35 points and Sahara with 33 in the remaining four weeks, should they win all remaining matches. In week 7, a win for Period 7 would be enough to secure a top 2 spot, and an automatic berth into the playoffs semi-finals, regardless of any other class. A loss by Period 3 and a win by Period 7 would secure the regular season championship for the Strat.
Friday, 7 February 2025
The round-robin tournament of the 2025 French Class League is at the halfway point and the Strat continues to set the pace with a series-leading 3-1-1 record, worth 7 points through 5 weeks. Bellagio has the next-best record in the round-robin at 3-2-0 for 6 points. They are holding onto 3rd place in the overall standings with 28 points. In the standings, the Strat has earned 35 points (13-7-9). Caesars sits in second place with an 11-10-10 record for 32 points. Sam's Town is still 4th with 27 points. Sahara and Fitzgerald are tied with 25 points. Sahara has the advantage with one more win than the latter.
In the week 5 matchups, Sahara and Caesars extended their lead in the standings with wins over Sam's Town (10-9) and Bellagio (11-9), respectively. Fitzgerald earned their second win of the season with a 10-8 victory over Sahara.
Friday, 31 January 2025
The 2025 LCF season is 40% complete and through four weeks, the standings have tightened up, aside from the first-place Strat who maintains a sizable lead. In the all-French-2 battle this week, the Strat and Fitzgerald tied at 9-9. Caesars snuck out a 10-9 victory over Sahara, the match-winning point coming from the grades analysis score. Meanwhile, Bellagio improved to 3-1-0 in the 2025 LCF with a decisive 11-7 victory over Sam's Town. The win also moved them into third place in the standings, passing Sam's Town.
Next week is the half-way point of the quarter and of the regular season.
Friday, 24 January 2025
The Strat extended their lead in the standings to a four-point advantage in Week #3 of the 2025 LCF competition after earning a 10-7 win over Bellagio. At a record of 12-7-8, good for 32 points, the Strat's lead over second place grew as Caesars failed to earn any points in an 8-7 loss to Fitzgerald; the first win of LCF for Period 4 this year. Sahara also managed to earn a victory, 9-7, versus Sam's Town. In the standings, ranks second through fifth are separated by just three points. Although there is no movement in the standings, the points battle is tightening as we head into another neutral week. This week's neutral contest proved to keep things close with nearly all of this week's contests being decided through the grade-scoring algorithm.
In week 4, top-ranked Strat will face lowest-ranked Fitzgerald for the first time this season in an all-Level-2 rivalry battle. Sam's Town plays Bellagio and Sahara hosts Caesars. The matchups for week 4 could shake up the standings if Bellagio and Sahara earn victories.
Sunday, 19 January 2025
The second week of LCF competition has come and gone. This week as a B-week, giving an advantage to B-day classes. The only notable matchup of a B vs A day class was Period 7 versus Period 8. Sahara (Period 8) recorded their first victory of the contest with a 12-9 victory over the Strat. Both teams are now 1-1-0. Sam's Town (1-0-1) and Caesars (0-1-1) tied at 9 this week, earning one point each in the standings. Bellagio improves to 2-0-0 in the competition after a 13-12 win over Fitzgeralds (0-2-0).
Coming up for week three, it's a neutral week with no school on Monday. This is the first week of the season where all matchups are A vs. B day classes but due to the nature of neutral weeks, neither day has an advantage. Sam's Town will face Sahara, Fitzgeralds against Caesars, and the Strat versus Bellagio.
WEBSITE UPDATES
The official LCF site has been updated to include pages for each class period. The page details each period's stats and history throughout the 7 years of French class competition. Included on each page is a breakdown of class versus class history, too!

Week 1 was the first week back after winter break. It was a full week with A-day classes having "home" advantage (one extra class day). The top two ranked classes, Period 7 and Period 3, faced off in this first challenge with the winning class taking the top spot in the standings after the first week of competition. The Strat edged out Caesars by a 9-8 score, the highest combined score in this competition format at the time. Period 5 (Sam's Town) also rebounded on Friday, rallying from a 6-1 deficit to take a 9-6 win versus Fitzgerald (P4). Period 6 (Bellagio) defeated Sahara (Period 8) with a 5-4 win.
STANDINGS after week 1 --
Period 7 The Strat (11-6-8), 30 pts.
Period 3 Caesars (9-9-9), 27 pts.
Period 5 Sam's Town (9-8-8), 26 pts.
Period 4 Bellagio (9-7-6), 24 pts.
Period 8 Sahara (7-11-7), 21 pts.
Period 4 Fitzgerald (6-8-8), 20 pts.
Tuesday 7 January 2025
The defending Goeller Cup Champion "Strat" (Period 7) won the 2024 French Class Olympics by earning the most gold medals and overall points, narrowly defeating "Caesars" (Period 3) by a point. The Olympics were the first semester competition for this school year, inspired by the 2024 Paris Games. The medals translate to the 2025 French Class League standings with gold medals earning 2 points, silver medals earning 1, and bronze medals tallying 0 points. With the win, the Strat enters the second semester in first place in the standings. Now, classes return to the format introduced in 2023-2024 with weekly head-to-head competitions.
Wednesday 14 August
The new school year is under way and the 2024-25 school year is starting off with a new look in French class to commemorate the 2024 Paris Olympic Games! This year, Mr. Bracken's classes will be competing in an Olympic-themed contest which still will culminate in the Goeller Cup Playoffs in May. The new theme will see students the opportunity to win medals throughout the year in addition to points. Classes this year will be ranked by medal count, as opposed to the Win-Loss-Tie points system of last school year (though it is anticipated that the 2025-26 school year will return to that format). Updated information about the 2024-25 school year will be posted soon.
With the start of a new school year, the previous school year's champions were officially honored with their banner-raising. The students in Period 7 last year were able to see their banner before they left on summer break, but now it officially has taken it's place, hanging alongside all previous Goeller Cup Champion classes.
Tuesday 7 May
Period 7 "The Strat" won the Goeller Cup for the first time today, defeating Period 2 "Flamingo" by a score of 3-2. Period 7 entered today leading 4-1, trailing only in the highest student category. To win, Period 2 needed to earn 104 points. They end up just 7 shy of that mark, having earned 97 points in today's final class. They did earn enough points to win the positive point percentage category, but Period 7 held on in French-speaking percentage and average point per student to couple with their impressive overall points lead to win their three categories. Every championship in the history of this competition was won by a score of 3-2, though it did appear today like Period 7 could be the first with a 4-1 win.
While this is the first victory for a 7th period class, it marks the first time that any student has won the Goeller Cup multiple times. Seven students from last year's winning class are members of 7th period this year. They are the first students to win two-times and some of them will have a chance at a three-peat next school year.
Monday 6 May
The Strat closed out their 5 days of competition in the 2024 Goeller Cup Finals today, earning 77 points during their 5th and final class of this round. That brings their series points total to 346 points, giving them a 161-point lead over Flamingo overall. They earned 9.61 points on average and end with a 98.86% positive mark. The Strat set another new-record for French-speaking percentage, managing a whopping 62.86% of their points for speaking and using French. This breaks the record in this category which they set themselves in the previous round. The only category where they trail is in highest-student, where they are 4 points behind the Flamingo. They could still win this category if the Flamingo's highest student should manage to lose 4 or more points, though that is unlikely to happen.
For Period 2, they will need to total 289 total points to surpass Period 7 in average points per student, that's a single-day net-gain of 104 points required for tomorrow's class. Should they manage to earn this number without losing any points, they will win three of the five categories. If they lose any points at all, they will have to surpass Period 7 either in total points or French speaking percentage. Assuming that they do lose one point, and still manage to earn 105 points, 92 of those points would need to be for French-speaking for Period 2 to surpass Period 7's record-setting number in this category. If they can earn 105 points with 92 of them for speaking French, they will win three of the five categories.
PRIMARY PERIOD 2 CLINCHING SCENARIOS
Period 2 will win the Goeller Cup if...
They earn 104 points without losing any points, bringing their class total to 289 points (wins in Avg. PPS, Positive %, Highest Student)
Period 2 wins average PPS, Positive %, and Highest Student
They earn 105 points, lose only 1 point, and 92 of those points are for speaking French (185 total French-speaking points).
Period 2 wins average PPS, French-speaking percentage, and Highest Student
Friday, 3 May
It all comes down to this. One final period for each class period to determine who will be the 2024 Goeller Cup Champions. The Strat has managed to hold a lead the entire final series, entering the fifth and final day cycle with a 4-1 series lead. But the Flamingo is right there and could steal an improbably victory with narrow wins in average points per student and positive percentage. It looks as though it will come down to the wire, even if the final series victory may end up being a 4-1 win for Period 7, or a 3-2 win for Period 2.
For Period 7, they have been the dominant class in the Finals, earning over 200 points in their first two days, but their roll has slowed in the second two days as they sit entering day 5 with 269 points. They have lost only 4 points in the Final round and in order to assure victory, they will need to not lose any more points, or they risk losing that category to Period 2, who has all but locked up the highest student category already, entering the final cycle with a 9-point lead in the category and getting the final say. Period 7's lead in French-speaking percentage and overall points seem sound at this point. So the question of this series comes down to who will win average point per student and positive point percentage. It's likely that Period 7 only needs to win one of those categories to end up with the title. But these are the two areas where it's close. Period 2 has the advantage for average point per student, holding a smaller roster size. And having only lost 3 points thus far in the finals, they just need to up their total points - only by 20 at this moment - to overtake the Strat in positive percentage.
The series is close and is still either class's game. Monday and Tuesday are all that is left to find our 2024 Champion.
Thursday, 2 May
With just three competition days remaining, the Goeller Cup Finals have tightened up on the scoreboard, as Period 7 continues to hold the lead. They managed to get themselves up to a 4-1 lead through three class days, but after their fourth class period, The Strat allowed the Flamingo to jump ahead in positive points percentage for the first time in the series, making their series lead 3-2. What's even more interesting is that Period 2 now has a class in hand and could snag the series lead by either jumping ahead in average points per student or French-speaking percentage. The Flamingo has not held a series lead at any point during the finals to this point. To steal that third category and take the lead in tomorrow's class, they would just need to earn 78 points to bring their total points to 225. That would give them a narrow edge in average points per student. Period 7 will need a strong final class on Monday of next week if they want to secure the victory. Today's class was the first class in the finals (excluding day 3) where they did not earn at least 100 points during class. Currently Period 7 has 269 points (vs. 145), a 7.47 average points per student (vs. 4.83), and a 63.4% (vs. 44.9%) French-speaking percentage. Period 2 leads positive percentage with 98.6% (vs. 98.5%) and highest earning student at 22 (vs. 19).
Bracken missed a class day of each class earlier this week (day 3 for each class) which did not impact the series.
Friday, 26 April
Yesterday Period 7 had their second class day of the 2024 Goeller Cup Finals. They extended their 3-2 series lead over Period 2 with another impressive showing, earning nearly 100 points for the second consecutive class. If they continue at this pace, they will likely control their own destiny to take the tournament. They do trail in two categories, highest earning student and French-speaking percentage. But so long as they maintain a decent lead in overall points, they should manage to maintain an edge in positive points percentage and average points per student. It is worth noting that Period 2 does have less rostered students, which should favor them in the average points per student category, but after their first day of class they are trailing significantly. This category could be the key to a Period 2 victory, if they manage to stay ahead in French-speaking percentage and highest earner.
Wednesday, 24 April
Period 2 had their first class competition of the 2024 Goeller Cup Finals on Wednesday but failed to make the gain the same traction as their adversairies in Period 7. They earned +91 points and -2 points for a cumulative total of 89 points. That's good for an average of 2.97 points per student in the class and a 97.8% positive rating. Those are the three categories where they trail after one cycle. They did pull ahead in French-speaking percentage, with a 67% on day 1. They also hold a strong lead in highest student, with the top-earner amassing 18 points in the first day.
Period 7 will look to pad their series lead tomorrow with their second class of the championship round.
Tuesday, 23 April
The 2024 Goeller Cup Finals got underway today as Period 7 held their first class of the penultimate round. They set an impressive mark for the first day, earning +125 and -2 points for a total of 123 points, a 98.4% positive, and a 65.6% French-speaking percentage. That breaks down to 3.42 points on average per student. The Strat is led by two students, Jaekob and Josiah, with 7 points each. It's the highest single-point earning day of the 2024 Playoffs by any team. The Strat is the slight favorite to win the 2024 Goeller Cup Finals, with ChatGPT placing their odds at -150.
The Flamingo will have their first class day tomorrow morning. They have a chance to match pace with Period 7 or may be facing an uphill battle to help their class period repeat as Goeller Cup Champions.
Sunday, 21 April
For the first time in French class history, the top two teams will meet in the Goeller Cup Finals. The Strat defeated the Sahara in the Semi-Final round 4-1 to advance to the finals for the first time in history. They will face the second-ranked class, the Flamingo, who defeated Caesars Palace in a 3-2 Semi-Final round battle that went down to the wire. The Strat set the record for French-speaking percentage in this round, earning 57.81% of their points from speaking and using French, an impressive feat. In fact, three of the four remaining classes all recorded French-speaking points percentages over 50%.
This is the second-ever playoff match between Period 7 and Period 2. The two classes met in the 2017 inaugural playoffs with Period 7 (called Bloc 4) winning 3-2. Period 2 advances to the finals for the second consecutive year and will look to win back-to-back Goeller Cups. However, it's the Strat who could create the first-ever two-time Goeller Cup Champion students. The Strat is slightly favored to win the Goeller Cup, at -150 odds, as calculated by the official odds calculator of the Goeller Cup Playoffs, ChatGPT. The Flamingo is only a slight underdog though, sitting at a +130. The advantage to the 7th-period class is, in part, due to their previous experience in the competition last school year.

We're less than 24 hours away from knowing who the 2024 Goeller Cup Finalist classes will be. The A-Day classes have the odds in their favor as they await the final class day for their adversaries. And historically speaking, Period 3 and Period 7 are in good positions to become finalists. Not only do they hold notable leads in their respective series, but the history book is practically begging for these two classes to be added. In the history of this competition, the number-one ranked class has advanced to the final round every year. The Strat (period 7) hopes to continue this trend. Additionally, the third-period class has advanced to the finals every year that the tournament was completed except one. The only time that 3rd period didn't advance to the finals was in 2019, when Period 1 defeated Period 5. Period 3 has advanced to the finals every other year, including the inaugural season in 2017 and then in back-to-back seasons in 2022 and 2023.
Tomorrow Flamingo and Sahara will try to rebound and make their way into the finals. Period 2 would become the third class of a first-round bye class to not win a playoff round. The other two instances of this scenario happened in 2017 and 2019. Sahara will look to bring 8th period back to the finals for the first time since the inaugural season. In order to surpass the Strat, Sahara will need to earn a net gain of 106 points. That is the only scenario that will get them to the finals, as 106 points is the magic number needed to flip the total points and average point per student categories to their favor. They already lead highest student entering the last day. So long as that student does not lose points, they have that category secured.
The Flamino's clinching scenario is more complicated, as their battle with Caesars Palace is more complex. At a minimum, they will need to earn a net gain of 60 points. That gain would be enough to flip the average point per student to them. If they don't lose any points, a net gain of 60 will also give them an advantage in positive percentage. If at least 58 of those points are French-speaking, they will overtake Caesars in French-speaking percentage. If they don't earn 58 points for speaking French, they will need to have their leading student earn at least 9 points to win that category outright. The Flamingo needs the net gain of points and then one of the other scenarios also to happen in order to flip the series.
CLINCHING SCENARIOS
Period 3 will advance to the Finals if:
Period 2 fails to earn a net gain of at least 60 points
Period 2 fails to earn at least 58 points in French-speaking percentage AND the highest earning student fails to earn at least 9 points.
Period 2 will advance to the Finals if:
They end class with a net gain of 60 points AND they earn at least 58 points for speaking French OR the highest student earns 9 or more points.
Period 7 will advance to the Finals if:
Period 8 fails to end class with a net gain of 106 points.
Period 8 gains 106 points or more BUT the highest-earning student loses two points AND no other student earns 22 points or more individually.
Period 8 will advance to the Finals if:
They earn end class with a net gain of 106 points.

In less than 48 hours time we will know the matchup for the 2024 Goeller Cup Championship. At the time of this publication, it would be an all A-day matchup featuring The Strat (period 7) and Caesars Palace (period 3). Both classes hold 4-1 series leads entering the final day cycle of this round. If this matchup holds, it will be the first time that a 7th period class advanced to the final round and the third consecutive year that a 3rd period class advanced to the finals (and the fourth overall). Of these final four, 7th period is the only class period that has never won Mr. Bracken's end of year competition.
The Sahara and Flamingo are looking to bounce back in their final class days, after both under-performed their a-day counterparts on the fourth day of competition. Now finding themselves in a hole, they will need stellar final days in order to advance. Period 8 (Sahara) leads only in highest student. They are close in French-speaking percentage, but trail significantly in every other category where Period 7 has an advantage. Period 7 can lock up a victory in the positive percentage points category tomorrow as long as they earn less than 10 negative points. This matchup features even enrollments, so which ever class wins the total point category will also win the average point per student category.
Caesars Palace and Flamingo are tied in highest student but the advantage goes to Caesars for having a higher second-ranked student as of right now. They also lead total points, positive points, and French-speaking percentage. The Flamingo holds an advantage in the average point per student category at 4.9-4.7. These two are very close in positive percentage, with a difference between the two classes of 1.2 points. This series is still up for grabs despite Caesars holding a massive advantage in the French-speaking category.
Which two classes will advance to the Goeller Cup Finals? We might get a better look at that after tomorrow's classes.
Sunday, 14 April
The Semi-Final round of the 2024 Goeller Cup Playoffs will come to an end this week on Thursday. The two Goeller Cup Finalist classes will be revealed by 2:00 PM on Thursday. Friday this week and Monday of next week will be Champions preparation day where the finalist classes will submit their information to Mr. Bracken for their class party and the name that they would like printed on a winning certificate and the champions banner.
The Strat and the Flamingo both are leading their series 3-2 with just two classes remaining as of Monday.
Wednesday, 10 April
For the first time in the 2024 Goeller Cup Playoffs, we have a close series before the final day! After two class periods of play, the top-ranked Strat leads 3-2 over Sahara and second-ranked Flamingo leads 3-2 over Caesars Palace. The top two seeded classes have never met in the history of the Goeller Cup Playoffs and 2024 could be the first year this happens! With just three classes remaining, the next class cycle could be decisive for classes as Mr. Bracken heads to Reno, NV for the 2024 NASC State Conference. Classes are still competing for points with the sub, with points coming from work completed with the sub.
The Strat lead total points 116-95, average points 3.2-2.64, and positive percentage of 98%-84%. Sahara has been excellent in the French-speaking category, leading 62.5%-45.7%, but the number of cell phone users in the class is bringing their positive percentage down and limiting their point gain against period 7. The highest student category is a 15-12 advantage for Sahara.
Flamingo nabbed a 3-2 lead by maintaining a 17-15 lead in highest student, and a better average point/student score at 3.00 vs 2.97. While that value is very close with just a difference of 0.03 points, the positive point category is also extremely close in this series, with Flamingo up by just 0.10, leading 94.12% to 94.02%. Caesars Palace leads overall points (110-86) and French-speaking percentage (60.6% vs. 38.2%).
Monday, 8 April
The two B day classes of Period 2 (Flamingo) and Period 8 (Sahara) came through strong on their first day of competition in round 2. Most surprisingly, Sahara, who comes into this round as the lowest seed, opened up a 4-1 series lead with also a 20-point lead in total points and a 6-point lead in highest student. Sahara and the Strat are even in roster numbers so the class that wins the most points will also, by default, win average point per student. Sahara also managed an incredible 73% French point percentage through day 1. The top-ranked Strat will need to put their best foot forward if they want to make this series close again.
Flamingo and Caesars Palace are locked in a tighter race, even though the second period class holds a 4-1 edge. Flamingo leads total points by just 4 but does have an advantage for average point per student, as their roster contains 5 less students. The positive point percentage for both classes is in the low-mid 90s and Caesars holds an impressive 63% French points score to Flamingo's 42% (a standard score for LVHS in this category). These two are also currently tied in highest student, both classes having a 7-point earner. When this category is tied, the next step is to look at how many students have that number. If it's tied still, we look for the next highest student. In this case, Flamingo has an advantage as their second-highest earner has 6 to Caesars' 5.
Sunday, 7 April
The second round of the Goeller Cup Playoffs started on Friday with the Strat and Caesars Palace completing their first classes of the semi-final round. Flamingo and Sahara will complete the first-day cycle on Monday. For the Strat (Period 7), it was their first day of competition in the playoffs, having achieved a first-round bye as the #1 seed. They are off to an early lead but time will tell if their late-season run of 6 wins in a row was a fluke or a sign of greatness. Period 7 is the only class period remaining in this year's playoffs that has never won the competition. The Strat enters this round favored to defeat Sahara with a -303 betting line odds. They won the season series 2-1 this year. Sahara was a +311 odds to win.
On the other end of the bracket, Caesars Palace (Period 3), who led the standings for a majority of the season before dropping to third in the final week, continues to roll after one day of class in the semi-final round. After eliminating The Fitzgerald in round 1, they put up 42 points on the opening day of round 2, including a whopping 63% of French-speaking points! The Flamingo (Period 2) also obtained a first-round bye thanks to finishing second in the season standings, where they never ranked outside of the top 2 after the first week. Despite their higher rank, Caesars Palace is favored to win the series, also sitting at -303 odds. If the 3rd period class should advance to the finals, it would be the third consecutive year for that class period to appear in the final round. Period 2 on the other hand is the defending Goeller Cup Champion class period and is looking to get back to the final round for a second consecutive year. According to the odds, they have an uphill battle, having a record of 0-2-1 against Caesars Palace this year. The odds for Flamingo sit at +214.

Thursday, 4 April
The first round of the 2024 Goeller Cup Playoffs has come to an end. Caesars Palace managed to hold on for a 3-2 victory over the Fitzgerald who put up a great fight in the last days but were unable to muster enough points to succeed in the comeback. Student Council also made a last-day push and, for the first time, ended ahead in overall points. But Sahara holds on by the skin of their teeth to take a 3-2 series victory.
Caesars Palace defeated the Fitzgerald in average point per student (4.67-4.57), positivity (89%-87%), and highest student (22-16). The Fitzgerald managed to snag wins in overall points (169-168) and set a new record for French-speaking percentage at 51.81% (vs. 49.47%). Both classes had record-setting numbers in this category but this is the first time that more than 50% of a class's points were for speaking French. It's a true testament to the Fitzgerald's dedication to wanting to win. Unfortunately, they came up just shy, needing only four more points to have won the average point per student category. Caesars Palace advances to the semi-final round against the Flamingo, setting up a rematch of last year's periodic finals (period 2 vs. Period 3).
Sahara advanced to the semi-final round by defeating StuCo in a 3-2 score. Sahara won average point per student (4.34-4.25), French-speaking percentage (25%-10%) and highest student (30-8). StuCo earned more points on the final day, ending just ahead in overall points (153-152) and also won positivity (100%-85%), having lost no points at all. Sahara advances to the semi-final round against the top-ranked Strat in an "end-of-the-day" showdown Period 7 vs. Period 8 match-up.
Wednesday, 3 April
On their last day of round 1, Caesars managed to retake the lead in every points category and padded their lead in highest student. They had a net-gain of 59 points to take them from 21 points down to 38 points ahead. They led average points per student by 1.16 points and positive point percentage by 0.92. Their French percentage score jumped to 49.47%, which will be a record-setting score in this category unless surpassed by Fitzgerald tomorrow. In highest student they opened up a 10-point lead of 22-12. Fitzgerald finishes their first-round play tomorrow.
StuCo and Sahara also close out their first-round series tomorrow. Sahara leads 4-1.
Tuesday, 2 April
The Fitzgeralds from Period 4 trailed through their first three class days by a 4-1 score. But on competition day number 4 they managed to turn the tides and took a 4-1 lead into the final day of competition. It's the first time that they have led in the series and puts them in great shape to advance to the semi-final round. Their opponent, Caesars Palace, led the regular season standings for almost the entire season before falling to 3rd place during the final week, leading them to a first-round match-up against Period 4. Now, they find themselves trailing on the outside looking in with just one day left in this round of competition. They will need a stellar final day to regain their advantage. Entering the final day, the Fitzgeralds led total points by 21 points (130-109), average points per student (3.51-3.02), positive point percentage (88%-87%), and French percentage (44%-39%). Caesars Palace maintained a lead in highest student by two points (14-12).
Student Council continued to tail 4-1, failing to make up any significant ground on Sahara. They enter the final day of competition only trailing by 9 points total (118-109), average point per student (3.37-3.03), and Sahara maintained a substantial lead in the highest student category, leading 23-6. In their special percentage category, Sahara led 30.1%-09.2%. StuCo only managed to keep a lead in positive point percentage, where they currently maintain a 100%.
Caesars Palace will have their final day of this round tomorrow, April 3, 2024 and will look to regain their final advantage. This round will conclude on Thursday, Apirl 3 at the end of the school day.
Wednesday, 27 March
The first round of the 2024 Goeller Cup Playoffs have continued this week with Period 3 Caesars Palace and Period 8 Sahara maintaining steady in their leads. Caesars has held a 3-2 lead over their opponent, Period 4 The Fitzgerald, since the competition started. Fitzgerald entered as the six-seeded team, making them the ultimate underdogs of this competition. But underdog teams usually have a good record of success in the history of the Goeller Cup Playoffs. With these two classes only separated by 5 points total and an average point difference of just 0.62 points, this match-up is still up for grabs in the final days.
In the other first-round match-up, Period 8 Sahara has maintained a 4-1 lead over StuCo through the first three classes. They have stretched their lead in total points to +17 and lead the highest student category by a +13 margin. Student Council remains perfect in positive points and will have their "French percentage" category calculated from a StuCo-only point option titled "Excellent Leadership," which brought them closer to Sahara in the points percentage category. Student Council has a bigger hill to climb, even as the higher-seeded team, but they are still in the hunt. They will need to have two perfect final days if they are to have any chance of advancing to the semi-final round.
Friday, 22 March
The 2024 Goeller Cup Playoffs got underway this week, starting on March 20 with Period 3's (Caesars Palace) first day of point earning. Their matchup against Period 4 (Fitzgeralds) sees them with an early lead of 3-2 after 1 and 1/2 class days of competition. Period 3 has built a commanding lead in the total points category, currently leading it by a score of 57-21.
The B-Day matchup of StuCo vs. Period 8 (Sahara) got off and running on March 21 with Period 8 taking a 4-1 lead after one class day of competition.
The official 2024 Goeller Cup Playoff odds for round 1 were published and Caesars (per. 3) and Sahara (per. 8) are favored to advance to the semi-final round. Caesars (3rd) is at 2.33 versus Fitzgerald (4th) at 3.33. Meanwhile, Sahara (8th) had the best odds of advancing to the semi-finals with a 1.33 to StuCo's 4.00.

Period 7 "The Strat" has won the 2024 regular season of the ligue de la classe de français at Las Vegas High School. They finished the season with 20 points thanks to their record of 9 wins, 4 losses, and 2 ties. They earn an automatic advancement directly to the final four round alongside the second-ranked Period 2 "Flamingo" who also finished with 20 points.
Period 3 "Caesars" finishes third after leading the standings for most of the school year. StuCo places fourth and will face 8th Period "Sahara" in the first round of the Goeller Cup Playoffs. In last place is 4th Period "Fitzgeralds" who will face "Caesars" in the first round.
The 2023 Goeller Cup Champions are officially a part of history as their championship banner now hangs in Mr. Bracken's classroom. The new banner was revealed on October 30, 2023 and contains the names of all students from 2022-23 Period 2.
Students were also able to see a closer-up version of the banner which is hanging on Mr. Bracken's classroom door.
Congratulations again to the inaugural winners of the Goeller Cup at Las Vegas High School, Period 2!
