The idea for a competitive ClassDojo series was born during Mr. Bracken's student-teaching semester. He was using ClassDoJo with Madame Goeller's classes and he wanted to reinvigorate the points system to re-engage the students throughout the course of the school year. Madame Goeller already had a classroom reward/economy-type system in place where students could earn "billets français" that they could spend on prizes or bonus points. As Mr. Bracken took over control of daily teaching he decided to put his own twist on that system and make it a competition. There would be bi-weekly competitions with students competing amongst themselves, versus their counterpart class level, and against all other classes in their school. At the end of each week, the highest student in each class would earn 2 billets français. The highest student per class level of French would earn 5. The highest student in each school would earn 10, and the highest overall student would win 20.
While this system was fun and it worked to re-engage the students, Bracken wanted to do more to "up the ante" of the competitive factor. So, he created the first-ever ClassDoJo Playoffs. There were six classes of students who were part of this inaugural series competition. It was inspired, in part, by the NBA’s March Madness brackets and the NHL’s Stanley Cup Playoffs.
There were two "conferences," the middle school section and the high school section (because Mr. Bracken worked in two different schools with Madame Goeller).

The Playoff bracket was set up so that the #1 seed would face the winner of a #3 vs #4 match-up while #2 would play the winner of #5 vs. #6. This format was chosen so that the high school classes would face off against one another in the semi-finals if Bloc 4 won their first-round series. This gave the best possible option for a high school versus middle school final and hoped to avoid an all-high-school-level final.
Période 2 (7th Grade French) had to face Bloc 4 (French I) from the high school in the first round. Bloc 4 won the series by a score of 3-2, earning victories in overall points, average points per student, and highest-earning student. Their victory set up a French I semi-final round featuring both high school classes facing off against each other. The winner would be crowned Champion du lycée.

Bloc 8 won the inaugural ClassDoJo Playoffs by a score of 3-2 over Période 3. Bloc 8 maintained 100% positive points which proved to be a pivotal feat for the French I students as their opponents, Période 3, had one rough day that dropped their score into the 80s. Other categories were close but keeping their points solely positive became an important part of Bloc 8's victory. Période 3 was consoled and encouraged to be proud of their effort since they had entered as the "ultimate underdogs."
Natalia was named the MVP of the 2017 ClassDoJo playoffs for her contributions to Bloc 8's in-class activities and competition success.
