The race for the 2020 Goeller Cup Playoffs was very competitive. This was the first school year where the system in place was meant to last the entire school year with three rounds of competition, associated with each of the first three grading quarters, followed by the 2020 Goeller Cup Playoffs to start during the third quarter. While some of the data has been lost at the time of the creation of this site, there is still some data from this school year. Period 5, a combined class of French III and IV had been leading the standings, having won the first quarter competition with 751 points. Period 1 (French I) was in second with 722 and Period 3 (French III) was in 3rd with 700 points.
Unfortunately, the regular season was never completed due to school closures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Champions banner that would have been created at the end of this school year instead contains the names of every student from Mr. Bracken’s 2019-2020 rosters with the date March 13, 2020 at the bottom, indicative of the last day of school that year.
Due to the changes and adaptations made for the 2020-2021 school year, the Goeller Cup Playoffs were suspended. Classes at Millbrook High School were separated into "A" and "B" groups, with Day 1A happening on Monday, Day 1B happening Tuesday, Day 2A on Thursday and Day 2B on Fridays. Wednesdays were asynchronous days where all students worked from home. There was a mix of both hybrid (at home) learners and in-class students in all classes during all sets of days. The school year lasted like this for the first three quarters. During the fourth quarter, A and B day groups were merged back together so now students would attend school four days a week instead of just the two that had happened for the majority of the year to help mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The 2021 Goeller Cup was named in honor of all Millbrook High School Faculty and Staff members who had to change and adapt to a hybrid model of in-person and virtual learning in addition to the four-day school week to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The 2021 banner which hangs in Mr. Bracken's classroom contains the names of every Millbrook High School employee from the 2020-2021 school year. Teachers proved to be resilient, flexible, caring, and creative to make this truly unique school year work to provide education and public health at the same time.
