2022-2023 Class logos from Nevada Learning Academy (NVLA)

Période 2 won the inaugural regular season Défi ClassDojo at Las Vegas High School, earning 635 points over the three months of the competition. They earned the first rank in the Goeller Cup Playoffs and therefore advance automatically to the semi-final round.

ROUND 1

All of the first-round matchups ended up with A-Day classes against A-Day classes and all B-Day classes against B-Day classes, essentially creating "A-Day" and "B-Day" conferences. Période 5 (Les Cinq-lopes) ranked second and matched up with the French III class from NVLA (Les Virtuels), the only class not based at Las Vegas High School. Période 3 (Les Licornes) ranked third and met Période 7 (Les Sirènes) while fourth-ranked Période 8 (Les Vampires) faced off against Période 4 (Les Lutins). After each class's first day of competition, the higher-seeded teams all held a series lead in the first round. 

Each series in this round featured one category with a record-low setting score in one of the five categories. 

(#2) Cinqlopes vs. (#7) NVLA 

Période 5 became the first class to win their way into the Semi-Finals by eliminating NVLA-French III by a score of 4-1. Période 5 managed to hold a lead for the entire round and alternated between having a 4-1 or 5-0 series lead after every class. The only points category that they lost was average points per student, which NVLA won with 6.25 points to Période 5's 4.87 points. Période 5 earned 112 points en route to winning their positive point percentage, French percentage, and highest-earning student.

This series featured the record low score (at the time of the series) in the overall points category. NVLA's 50 points in round 1 is the lowest-ever earned points in a Goeller Cup Playoff series.

(#3) Les Licornes vs. (#6) Les Sirènes 

Période 3 advanced to the Semi-Finals after defeating Période 7 by a score of 3-2. Période 3 held a 4-1 series lead through the first three days but on the final day of competition, Période 7 was able to sneak past them in total points (154-150). Période 7 also defeated Période 3 in French points percentage. Période 3 won the remaining categories, average point per student, positive point percentage, and highest student. Période 3 is the defending Goeller Cup Champion class period from the 2021-2022 school year at Millbrook High School. They advanced to meet Période 5 in the Goeller Cup Semi-Finals.

This series additionally featured a record-low score (at the time of the series): average point per student category with Période 7 scoring a mere 3.76 pps.

(#4) Les Vampires vs. (#5) Les Lutins

Période 4 defeated Période 8 on a tie-break to advance to the Semi-Final round earning a 3-2 score in round one. Période 8 had led this series at the end of the first 3 days of competition by a 4-1 score but on the last day failed to maintain their lead. Période 8 managed to stay ahead in average points per student and French point percentage only. Période 4 won outright in the highest student and positive point percentage categories. Both classes ended up tied in overall points with 151. The tie-break rules, updated for this school year, indicated that a tie-break in this category would be determined by participation point percentage. On the tie-break, Période 4 won with 14.3% versus Période 8's 12.3%. This gave Période 4 the advantage and eliminated Période 8. They advanced to face the top-ranked Période 2.

This series also featured the record low score (at the time of the series) in the positive point percentage with Période 8 earning only a 75% positive score.

(#1) Les Loups-garous vs. (#3) Les Licornes

Période 3 advanced to the final for the second consecutive year and for the first time at Las Vegas High School. It's the third time in this competition that Période 3 has made it to the final round. Période 3 is the only class period to advance to the final round in all three schools where Mr. Bracken has completed this competition. This is the first time that a period has advanced to the finals in back-to-back school years (however this is the first true opportunity that it has been able to happen in Bracken's six years of teaching). Période 3 entered as the third-ranked class and defeated Période 7 in the first round (3-2) then Période 5 on a tie-breaker (3-2) in the semi-finals to advance to the finals.

Période 2 advanced to the final as the top-seeded class in the playoffs and advanced automatically to the semi-final round. They punched their ticket to the finals having defeated their only opponent, Période 4, in the semi-final round on a tie-break. This is the first time in Goeller Cup history that a 2nd period class played in the Finals.

After one class day each, Période 2 had a commanding 5-0 series lead and, in overall points, led by over 75 points. Période 3 had their roughest day of competition on their first class day of the finals which was what allowed Période 2 to get an early jump. At the start of the second class day of competition, Mr. Bracken was absent for a family illness matter. Both classes were still able to earn points based on the work that they completed online. Période 2 dramatically outscored Période 3 on this day earning about nine times as many points due to the number of students who completed the sub work for that day. After three class days of competition, Période 3 had pulled the series to a 4-1 deficit and, after their last day, managed to take a 3-2 series lead. However, because they had come from so far behind, Période 2 only needed a net gain of 5 points to secure the championship. Période 3 had taken the lead in the series based on the average point per student category and to regain the lead, Période 2 needed only to finish with 160 total points; they entered their final class day with 155.

In the end, Période 2 managed to earn the 3-2 series victory becoming the first-ever Goeller Cup Champions of Las Vegas High School. The three categories where they were victorious were in overall points, average points per student, and positive point percentage. Période 3 managed to set a new record in the French-speaking percentage category, edging out Période 2 with 40.6%. The previous record was set during the 2022 Goeller Cup Playoffs at Millbrook High School when 7th Period earned 36.5%. Période 3 also maintained an advantage in the highest-earning student category.

In March of 2024, Period 2 Alumni Student Thomas Quintero, Jr. passed away. Thomas did not attend class often but when he did was was quiet and kind. He's the first Goeller Cup Champion student to pass away. His memory lives on as his name hangs in Mr. Bracken's classroom as a member of the 2023 Championship-winning class.
