The Goeller Cup was first presented at the conclusion of the 2019 Goeller Cup Final. The trophy, handcrafted by Mr. Bracken, was awarded to the winner of the newly branded end-of-year ClassDojo tournament for the first time.
Constructed from a glass vase mounted atop a reinforced cardboard base, the trophy was spray-painted silver and adorned with a fleur-de-lis, the name of the trophy, and the inaugural championship year. The Millbrook High School logo was featured prominently on the base. The trophy was named in honor of Mrs. Brogan Goeller, Mr. Bracken's supervising teacher during his student-teaching experience and one of the educators who helped inspire the competition's creation.
The class logos for the 2018–2019 school year drew inspiration from France's victory at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Each logo took the form of a hexagon—a tribute to France's geometric nickname, l'Hexagone—with the class period displayed at its center. Above the period number, stars denoted the French level: one star for French I, two stars for French II, and so forth.
For the 2018–2019 school year, the ClassDojo competition was implemented during the second semester, beginning in early February with four bi-weekly competitions that determined playoff seeding for the newly established Goeller Cup Playoffs.

The Goeller Cup Playoffs used a fixed bracket format in which the highest remaining seed faced the lowest remaining seed. This is how Period 5 (#1) met Period 3 (#5) and Period 7 (#2) met Period 1 (#6). The winners of these matches met in the final round to become the first-ever winners of the Goeller Cup. This round featured four competition days for each class.
Period 5 defeated Period 3 by a score of 3-2. Period 5 was the dominant class for a majority of the series largely due to a difficult day in which Period 3 incurred substantial point deductions. Period 5 was the highest-earning class in terms of points in the semi-finals, garnering 235 points in their victory. They advanced to the Goeller Cup Finals, marking the first time that a 5th period class had advanced to the Finals.

Top-seeded Period 5 faced sixth-seeded Period 1 in the 2019 Goeller Cup Final. Entering the postseason as the lowest-ranked team in the field, Period 1 completed one of the most remarkable Cinderella runs in competition history by defeating Period 5 in a tightly contested 3–2 series.
With the victory, Period 1 became the first class to hoist the Goeller Cup championship trophy. The triumph also established the tradition of engraving the names of each championship class onto the trophy itself.
French I student Emily A was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2019 Goeller Cup Playoffs following her extraordinary postseason performance. She scored a then-playoff-record 32 points during the Final, helping secure Period 1's place in Goeller Cup history.
