The Goeller Cup Playoffs were not held during Mr. Bracken's first full year of teaching. Although ClassDojo continued to be used to distribute points and rewards, the postseason tournament format was temporarily set aside as Mr. Bracken focused on adjusting to his new role in the classroom.

Additionally, the Goeller Cup trophy itself was not created until the 2018–2019 school year. Had a tournament been conducted during the 2017–2018 academic year, it would have represented a continuation of the original ClassDojo Playoffs rather than the beginning of the Goeller Cup era.

Retroactively, Mr. Bracken dedicated the 2017–2018 school year to the teachers and colleagues who helped him establish himself at Millbrook. The 2018 commemorative banner was created in their honor as a gesture of gratitude for their mentorship, encouragement, and support during the early stages of his teaching career.
