QUEST FOR THE GOELLER CUP
ROUND 1
Cycles complete: 1/5
1-4
BRACKENNIE, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — The Quest to crown a new Monarch moved one step closer to its conclusion today, as the opening day of competition delivered decisive early momentum for two Houses.
House Bellagio surged ahead in its matchup against House Caesars, claiming a 3–2 advantage across the five trials. Bellagio’s performance was highlighted by a dominant offensive showing, surpassing 100 total points, making it the only House to reach that mark on the opening day.
Elsewhere in the capital, House Fitzgeralds established control in their contest against House Stardust. Despite a strong effort from Stardust, which produced 89 points, Fitzgeralds secured the opening-day edge by leading in four of the five trials.
In the most peculiar of positions is the House who, historically, has had the most success in the Quest: Caesars. The three-time finalist House managed to record one of the worst opening-day performances of all-time, currently holding a score of 76% in the Honor trial. In order to combat House Bellagio, the Caesarians will need an impressive and highly positive performance for the conclusion of this gauntlet.
With four days of competition still remaining, both Bellagio and Fitzgeralds have positioned themselves favorably—but as the Quest has proven before, early leads offer no guarantees in the trials ahead.

HENDERS, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — The day has arrived.
The Quest for the Goeller Cup began this morning from the steps of the Château Royal in Brackennie, as the Gamemaker and Royal Council formally opened the competition that will determine the next ruler of the Realm.
The preliminary Gauntlet features House Bellagio against House Caesars, and House Stardust versus House Fitzgeralds.
For House Bellagio, the stakes carry added weight. As the most recent House Supreme—and the last to hoist the Goeller Cup, crowning King Jaekob at the conclusion of the previous Quest—they now seek to defend their legacy and maintain their influence across Zaccaria.
Across the Realm, the once-distant concerns of the monarchy have now become the focus of daily life.
Southwest of the capital, in Henders, Vincent L’Accent and his family gathered early to hear word of the Quest’s opening, viewing the ceremony through the Datanet broadcast in the city square.
“It’s an amazing moment to be in Zaccaria,” said L’Accent.
A lifelong resident of Henders, Vincent has only visited the capital once and has never witnessed the duels that accompany the legendary Quest.
“I am excited to see these young leaders of the Kingdom face the Trials of leadership. I feel confident that the Quest will secure the future of the Realm.”
His sentiment is echoed across the Kingdom.
Recent events have left many citizens unsettled, as the effects of the Rift continue to linger.
“It has been a chaotic time,” L’Accent continued. “I saw the smoke from the fires in Bouldera and felt the quakes. We nearly lost our home from the damage they caused.”
He paused before adding:
“We need more than a leader—we need a champion.”
Back in Brackennie, the opening Gauntlet is already underway.
House Bellagio faces House Caesars, while House Stardust battles House Fitzgeralds, as each House begins the first of five day-cycles in their pursuit of the Goeller Cup—and the right to be named House Supreme of Zaccaria.
BRACKENNIE, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — The Royal Council has broken its silence.
Following the Gamemaker’s private assembly with the eight Noble Houses, the Realm has received its first official confirmation of what lies ahead: the trials that will determine the next bearer of the Goeller Cup.
In a sealed decree issued at dusk, the Gamemaker unveiled the structure of the long-awaited Quest—a series of competitive trials designed not only to measure strength, but to test the discipline, unity, and resilience of each House.
“The Cup is not claimed through power alone,” the decree reads. “It is earned through balance.”
A Contest of Five Measures
Unlike the chaotic trials of ancient years, this year’s Quest will be governed by a refined system of evaluation. Each House will compete across five distinct measures of performance, with victory awarded to the House that claims the majority.
The five trials are as follows:
Might (Total Points)
The overall impact of a House’s actions across the Realm.
Unity (Points per Student)
A measure of how effectively each member contributes to their House’s success.
Honor (Positive Percentage)
The consistency with which a House maintains honorable and constructive behavior.
Voice (French Percentage)
The extent to which Houses embrace the language of the Kingdom in their actions.
Legends (Top 3 Highest Student Performance)
Recognition of exceptional individual achievement within each House.
Sources within the Council confirm that each trial will unfold over a fixed span of 5 days, with performance tracked continuously. Momentum, consistency, and late surges are all expected to play decisive roles.
The Structure of the Trials
The Quest for the Cup will unfold in three stages:
The Opening Gauntlet — For Glory or Peril
A first round where all remaining Houses enter direct competition. Only those who can secure a majority of the five measures will advance.
House Sahara and House Strat surpass this Gauntlet automatically
House Bellagio versus House Caesars
House Stardust versus House Fitzgeralds
The Semifinal Gauntlet — Duel of the Fates
The surviving Houses face heightened pressure as matchups narrow and margins tighten.
The Final Gauntlet — Kingdom Rising
A single decisive clash to determine which House will claim the Goeller Cup and etch its name into the Council Register.
Notably, the Council confirmed that advantages earned throughout the year—whether through relics, alliances, or strategic decisions—may still be invoked. However, these alone will not secure victory. “In the end,” the decree states, “performance will decide what preparation cannot.”
Across the Realm, anticipation grows. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is a rare moment for Zaccaria's citizens to experience a legendary moment of our Kingdom, a shared calling to the continued growth of our realm, and the chance for the best of the nation's leaders to rise to the moment. The Kingdom sleeps before the trials begin tomorrow.
BRACKENNIE, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — For the first time in a generation, the Royal Council has confirmed the return of the Gamemaker, Keeper of the Cup and steward of the Realm’s most sacred trials. His arrival marks a turning point in the Kingdom’s recovery and signals that the long-awaited Quest for the Cup is imminent.
Witnesses report that the Gamemaker entered the capital without procession or announcement, appearing at the gates of the Royal Château at dawn. Clad in travel-worn garments and bearing the Council Register at his side, he was admitted without question; a privilege reserved only for those whose authority stands beyond even that of the crown.
By midday, summons had been issued across the Realm. Representatives from six of the eight Noble Houses—Caesars, Fitzgeralds, Stardust, Bellagio, Strat, and Sahara—were called to assemble within the Grand Hall. Though the contents of the meeting remain closely guarded, sources within the Council describe the atmosphere as “measured, but heavy with expectation.”
At the center of the assembly was the Council Register, the ancient ledger said to contain an unalterable account of each House’s actions throughout the year. According to tradition, the Register is sealed only once; just before the trials for the Goeller Cup begin.
“The Register is not merely a record,” one Council scribe stated under condition of anonymity. “It is judgment. Every choice, every alliance, every failure—it is all preserved. And soon, it will decide who stands worthy.”
While no official rankings have yet been declared, speculation spreads rapidly among citizens and scholars alike. Many believe the Gamemaker’s review of the Houses’ deeds will determine not only seeding for the trials ahead, but also which Houses may carry unseen advantages—or hidden burdens—into the competition.
What is known with certainty is this: the Register has not yet been sealed. And until it is, the fate of every House remains unwritten.
As the Realm watches and waits, one truth becomes clear: the age of preparation has ended. The age of trial is about to begin.
BRACKENNIE, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — The Gamemaker arrived at the Royal Chateau this morning and met with members of the Royal Council to reveal the final rankings of Houses, as recorded in the Zaccarian Council Register. Following the fall of King Jaekob, a set of trials to find a new monarch were set into action, a tradition even more historic than Zaccaria itself. The Quest will put Zaccaria's Houses to the ultimate test, trialing their leadership, engagement, temperament, and skills. For if these royals want to reign supreme and appoint one of their own to the throne, they will need to prove their worth as the best of Zaccaria.
The Council announced that House Sahara and House Strat earned Council's Honors, a special award given to the two best-performing Houses in Zaccaria. For these two Houses, they have proven their worth enough to advance directly to the tournament's semi-final stage. For the remaining Houses, it means a direct matchup against another House. House Bellagio narrowly missed the Council Honors. It was, afterall, this House who was last entitulated House Supreme and provided King Jaekob's ascension to the throne. The path to their repeat as champions includes a preliminary fight against House Caesars. That leaves House Stardust to battle House Fitzgeralds in the opening stage of the Quest.
"The Quest for the legendary Goeller Cup will begin here, in Brackennie, on the second day of each House's arrival following the mandatory mourining period, starting a week of today," announced the Gamemaker, speaking from the East tower of the Brackennie castle. The man, a true legend of Zaccarian history, is a figure recognizable to many, but unknown to most. He will meet directly with each House to set for the rules and format of the tournament.
What we already know: each round of the Quest will last for 5 day cycles. Traditionally, there are 5 trials in which the Houses compete. In order to win, a House win at least 3 of the trials versus their opponent, allowing that House to advance to the next round. Houses who fail to advance fall to relegation, competing for their place in the line of succession, should Zaccaria's fate meet a negative outcome.
Two Houses are not participating: House Flamingo and House Excalibur. An anonymous source from within the Royal Council reported that these two Houses have not responded to requests for contact from the Council since the fall of House Flamingo's ascension and monarch, Queen Naya and their subsequent loss of power to House Strat when King Josiah was coronated seasons ago.
For now, the Nobles await the beginnig of the Quest. Will our new leader meet the moment? Of the six entrants, only one can be champion. The Realm awaits to meet its new monarch.

BRACKENNIE, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — The Royal Council gathered this week within the halls of the Royal Château to reveal the latest standings recorded in the Zaccarian Council Register, the official ledger used to measure the strength and influence of the Realm’s noble Houses.
The announcement was delivered alongside the Royal Gamemaker, an ancient office of the kingdom charged with preserving the traditions of the Realm and serving as the Keeper of the Goeller Cup. For generations, the Gamemaker has overseen the preparations leading to the Quest, ensuring that the deeds of the Houses are faithfully recorded before the competition begins.
The rankings revealed by the Council will determine how the Houses enter the Quest for the Goeller Cup, the ancient ritual through which the Kingdom of Zaccaria determines its supreme House champion and crowns a new monarch to lead the Realm.
The Quest, held near the end of each cycle of the kingdom, brings the great Houses of Zaccaria into direct competition. Over several trials, the Houses measure their strength against one another through a series of challenges designed to test their unity, discipline, knowledge, and leadership. One by one, the Houses face elimination until a single House remains victorious.
That House claims the Goeller Cup, the ancient symbol of triumph within the Realm, and from among its citizens a champion is chosen to be crowned Monarch of Zaccaria, entrusted with guiding the kingdom forward.
According to the Council, the Register has quietly tracked the actions of every House throughout the year. From the moment the Houses first elevated their champions to the strategic decisions made across the kingdom, each act has contributed to the growing record of influence preserved within the Council’s archives.
While the precise calculations of the Register remain known only to the Council and the Keeper of the Cup, scholars within the capital suggest that the development of powerful champions within a House carries particular importance in the records. Strategic actions taken during key moments of the year and investments made within the markets of the Realm have also left their mark upon the ledger.
“The Register remembers the deeds of the Houses,” said one archivist working within the Royal Château. “It is not merely the number of actions that matter, but the strength and consequence of those actions.”
Despite the unveiling of the rankings, the Council confirmed that the Register has not yet been sealed.
In a proclamation delivered during the gathering, the Royal Gamemaker declared that the Houses still have a brief window to strengthen their standing before the Quest begins.
“The Council Register remains open,” the proclamation stated. “Let the Houses act while time remains, for every deed worthy of remembrance shall still be written.”
However, the Keeper of the Cup also warned that the opportunity is rapidly drawing to a close. The Council announced that the final opportunity for Houses to add to their record will come at the close of the second day before the Gamemaker’s absence later this week. At that time, the Register will be sealed and the official rankings for the Quest will be finalized.
Across the Realm, the announcement has sparked renewed activity as the Houses move quickly to ensure their deeds are recorded before the ledger closes.
For once the Register is sealed, the time for preparation will end.
Soon the Houses of Zaccaria will gather for the ancient trials of the Quest for the Goeller Cup, where the strength of the Realm will be tested and a new monarch will rise to claim the throne.
The current rankings were announced as follows:
BRACKENNIE, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — The Royal Council confirmed this morning that King Jaekob, member of the House of Bellagio and ruler of the Kingdom of Zaccaria, has died following the recent chain of catastrophic events that have shaken the realm in recent weeks.
The announcement was delivered at dawn from the steps of the Royal Château, where messengers informed gathered citizens that the Crown had fallen silent during the night. Bells across the capital began tolling shortly afterward, signaling the beginning of an official period of mourning throughout the kingdom.
While the Council has not released full details surrounding the King’s death, officials stated that it occurred in the aftermath of the Great Riftquake, the violent tremor that destabilized the land and disrupted the ancient systems that once governed the kingdom’s balance.
King Jaekob had ruled during a turbulent era marked by the first appearance of mysterious forces now widely known as Riftenergy. These disturbances, which began with unexplained tremors near the western town of Lareth Hollow and later erupted violently in the southern city of Bouldera, have since spread across the realm.
In recent days, scholars have warned that the Riftquake may have weakened the very foundations of the kingdom’s magical and administrative systems. The ancient Great Ledger, once relied upon to track the prosperity and strength of the realm, has reportedly begun producing conflicting records.
For many citizens, the King’s death represents not only the loss of a monarch but the symbolic end of an era of stability.
“This kingdom has always had a Crown to guide it,” said one citizen gathered outside the Château gates. “Now the land itself is changing, and the King is gone.”
Despite the uncertainty, royal officials have emphasized that the Houses of Zaccaria will play a crucial role in determining the realm’s future.
Already, the Houses have taken on greater responsibility during the recent crisis, responding to disasters, studying the strange forces emerging beneath the land, and working to maintain stability in their territories.
Historians note that Zaccaria has faced moments of uncertainty before, but rarely without a clear successor waiting to take the throne.
With the Crown now vacant and the kingdom still recovering from the Riftquake, many observers believe that the coming months will determine what form leadership in Zaccaria will take moving forward.
For now, black banners have been raised along the walls of the capital, and citizens across the realm are gathering to remember the King who ruled during one of the most uncertain periods in the kingdom’s history.
As the bells of Brackennie continue to ring through the morning air, one question now echoes across Zaccaria:
Who will lead the kingdom next?
BRACKENNIE, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — Royal scouts returning from the western lowlands and southern provinces have delivered a report that has left the entire kingdom stunned: the towns of Lareth Hollow and Bouldera are gone.
Not destroyed, nor burned.... but rather, gone.
According to the scouts, the places where the two towns once stood now contain nothing but vast openings in the earth, enormous fractures that appear to have split the land itself apart.
Where the orchards and stone homes of Lareth Hollow once stood, there now stretches a silent basin of shattered ground. In the south, the city of Bouldera, already damaged by the earlier Riftfire eruption, has disappeared into a field of broken rock and glasslike stone.
But it is what lies between the two locations that has caused the greatest alarm.
Surveyors mapping the devastation discovered that the fractures at both sites connect to a single sweeping rift that cuts across the kingdom like a scar. The massive crack winds through forests, fields, and roads, carving a jagged path across the land before continuing northward toward the capital.
The fissure ends beneath the foundations of the Royal Château in Brackennie.
Witnesses say the exposed stone within the crack glows faintly at night, emitting pulses of the same mysterious Riftenergy previously observed during the disturbances at both towns. Some travelers claim the ground near the fracture hums softly, as though energy continues to flow deep beneath the surface.
Royal engineers and scholars have begun studying the phenomenon but admit they have few answers.
“We have never recorded anything like this in the history of Zaccaria,” said one member of the Royal Survey Corps. “The Rift appears to have formed simultaneously across hundreds of miles of land.”
While the exact cause remains unknown, many experts now believe the disappearances of Lareth Hollow and Bouldera were not isolated disasters but part of a single catastrophic event connected to the Great Riftquake that recently destabilized the realm.
For the citizens who once lived in those towns, the news has been devastating. Refugees from nearby regions have begun gathering in surrounding settlements, hoping that royal authorities may eventually uncover what truly happened to the missing communities.
Meanwhile, the discovery of the massive fissure has raised new fears within the capital.
If the Rift truly originates beneath the Royal Château, as current surveys suggest, it may mean the mysterious forces now reshaping the land are connected to the very heart of the kingdom itself.
As scholars race to understand the phenomenon and the Houses of Zaccaria prepare to respond, the great scar stretching across the land stands as a stark reminder of how quickly the realm has changed.
Where thriving towns once stood, there is now only silence, and a crack in the earth that continues to pulse with an energy no one yet fully understands.
BRACKENNIE, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — The Kingdom of Zaccaria awoke this week to the most violent disturbance in living memory as a massive tremor—now widely referred to by scholars as the Great Riftquake—shook the land from the western lowlands to the southern deserts.
Witnesses across the realm reported the same unsettling sequence of events. First came a deep rumble beneath the ground, followed by a sudden wave of motion that rippled through cities, villages, and farmlands alike. Towers swayed, roads split, and the great stone foundations of the capital itself trembled.
Yet while the physical damage was significant in several regions, royal engineers say the most troubling consequences of the Riftquake may not be structural.
Instead, they appear to be systemic.
Within hours of the tremor, scholars responsible for maintaining the Great Ledger of Zaccaria, the ancient system used to track the strength and prosperity of the kingdom, began reporting irregularities.
Values that had remained stable for generations suddenly began shifting without explanation.
Records of wealth rose in regions where no trade had occurred.
Measures of influence diminished in Houses that had recently grown stronger.
Even the kingdom’s tallies of construction and military strength appeared to fluctuate unpredictably.
“It is as if the Realm still attempts to count its own strength,” explained one archivist studying the phenomenon within the Royal Château. “But the numbers no longer agree with the world they describe.”
The disturbance has caused particular concern among the Houses of Zaccaria, whose power and reputation are closely tied to these measurements of the kingdom’s health. Many leaders now worry that the ancient systems used to measure their progress may no longer reflect reality.
Some scholars believe the Riftquake may have disrupted deeper magical structures woven into the foundations of the realm centuries ago.
Others fear the event was not merely a natural tremor, but the result of the same mysterious forces that first appeared near Lareth Hollow and later erupted in the Riftfire disaster at Bouldera.
If these forces continue to grow, experts warn the consequences could extend far beyond damaged roads and fractured stone.
“The stability of Zaccaria has always depended on balance,” said one royal historian. “If the systems that measure that balance have been corrupted, the kingdom may soon find itself navigating a future where the old rules no longer apply.”
For now, the Houses of the realm continue their efforts to strengthen their domains and restore order to the kingdom’s records. Yet many observers fear that the Great Riftquake may only be the beginning of a far greater upheaval.
Across the land, the tremors have stopped, but the questions they raised continue to echo.
And as the Kingdom of Zaccaria struggles to understand what has changed beneath its feet, one truth has become increasingly clear:
The realm that existed before the Riftquake may never return.
BRACKENNIE, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — A formal dispatch from the Royal Château was delivered across the kingdom this week, summoning the noble Houses of Zaccaria to action as the mysterious disturbances spreading across the realm continue to intensify.
Royal messengers traveling the great roads carried identical sealed proclamations bearing the sigil of the Crown. The message, addressed to the leaders of the six Houses, calls upon the rising generation of Zaccarian citizens to help safeguard the kingdom during what scholars are now describing as an unprecedented moment in the realm’s history.
In recent months, troubling events have appeared across distant provinces. Reports from the western lowlands described strange movements beneath the land near Lareth Hollow, while the southern city of Bouldera suffered violent fractures in its streets following a surge of unknown energy now widely referred to as Riftfire.
Although royal officials have offered few public explanations, those studying the disturbances believe the events may be connected to a powerful force awakening deep beneath the kingdom.
“The realm itself is changing,” said one scholar working within the archives of the capital. “The land, the ancient records, even the systems that have guided the kingdom for generations seem to be shifting in ways we do not yet understand.”
Faced with growing uncertainty, the Crown has turned to the Houses of Zaccaria, a new generation of leaders who have been steadily strengthening their domains throughout the year.
Each House has developed its own strengths—some excelling in scholarship and knowledge, others in diplomacy, construction, military readiness, or the study of magic. According to the royal dispatch, these different capabilities may prove essential as the kingdom attempts to understand the forces now emerging beneath its lands.
Observers say the summons marks a significant moment for the young Houses. Until now, their efforts have focused primarily on developing their own territories and preparing for future challenges. Now, however, the fate of the entire realm may depend on how they respond.
Royal officials have not yet revealed what specific actions the Houses will be asked to take. Sources within the capital suggest that the coming weeks may involve difficult decisions, strategic cooperation, and perhaps even sacrifices to preserve the stability of the kingdom.
For the citizens of Zaccaria, the announcement carries both hope and uncertainty.
While the disturbances continue to spread across the land, many now believe the kingdom’s future will be shaped not by the old powers of the realm, but by the choices of its newest leaders.
As one message from the dispatch concludes:
“In times of uncertainty, the strength of the realm lies not in its crown, but in the courage of its people.”
With the Houses now summoned to action, all eyes across Zaccaria turn toward the decisions that will shape the kingdom’s fate in the days ahead.
BRACKENNIE, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — What began as scattered disturbances across the Kingdom of Zaccaria has now grown into a challenge that reaches every corner of the realm.
Over the past several weeks, citizens from distant provinces to the capital itself have reported unusual signs emerging from the land. In the western lowlands, the quiet town of Lareth Hollow became the first place where scholars noticed strange movements beneath the earth—faint tremors and unexplained lights glowing beneath the soil.
Soon afterward, the southern city of Bouldera suffered a far more violent event when a surge of mysterious energy—now widely called Riftfire—fractured roads and buildings, forcing many citizens to flee.
Though royal officials have yet to provide a full explanation, many researchers believe these disturbances are connected to an ancient force awakening deep beneath the kingdom.
In response, the Houses of Zaccaria, the young leaders tasked with guiding the realm into the future, began pursuing different strategies to confront the growing threat.
Some Houses turned to scholars and forgotten records, searching for clues hidden in the kingdom’s past. Others focused on strengthening their lands through construction, alliances, and the gathering of resources. Still others chose to explore the strange energies themselves, hoping to understand—and perhaps even control—the forces now reshaping the realm.
These differing approaches have already begun shaping the balance of power across Zaccaria. As the Houses expand their influence, their decisions continue to affect the kingdom’s strength in areas ranging from military readiness to knowledge, wealth, and magical capability.
Yet the deeper meaning behind the Rift remains unclear.
While some believe the disturbances are simply natural forces long buried beneath the land, others warn that the events unfolding across Zaccaria may signal the beginning of a far greater crisis.
For now, the realm watches and waits.
The tremors beneath the kingdom have not ceased.
And many now wonder whether the challenges faced during this second chapter were merely the first signs of something far more dangerous yet to come.
BOULDERA, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — Weeks after violent surges of Riftfire fractured the southern city of Bouldera, new developments have emerged from the scorched lands surrounding the disaster.
Expeditions from House Caesars and House Strat have returned from the region carrying fragments of unusual crystalline material believed to have formed during the eruption of mysterious energy that split the ground beneath the city.
Witnesses describe the crystals as dark, glasslike formations embedded in the jagged stone left behind by the Riftfire surge. Some pieces reportedly glow faintly when exposed to torchlight, while others produce a low humming vibration when handled.
Scholars studying the fragments have not yet determined their origin.
“What we are seeing may be the physical residue of the forces that shattered the ground here,” explained one archivist accompanying the royal survey teams. “These crystals did not exist in the earth before the Riftfire event.”
Members of the expeditions say the materials were discovered within the deepest fractures surrounding the southern districts of Bouldera—areas where the ground still carries faint traces of heat and energy weeks after the initial eruption.
The decision to gather the crystals has sparked debate among observers in the capital.
Some scholars believe the materials may contain valuable clues about the strange energies now appearing throughout the kingdom. If studied carefully, they could help the Houses understand how the Rift is forming—and perhaps how it might be contained.
Others warn that tampering with unknown substances tied to such powerful forces could be dangerous.
“We do not yet understand what these crystals represent,” said one concerned historian in Brackennie. “They may be remnants of the Rift… or they may be something far more unstable.”
Despite these concerns, both Houses appear determined to continue their research. Reports suggest that the materials are already being transported to their respective territories for further examination.
The discoveries also highlight the growing rivalry between the Houses as they attempt to respond to the kingdom’s unfolding crisis. While some Houses continue searching for answers in ancient records or strengthening the realm’s defenses, others have begun investigating the strange energies themselves.
For the people of Bouldera, however, the priority remains rebuilding the damaged city and ensuring the safety of those who fled during the eruption.
Even so, the discoveries have left many wondering whether the crystals uncovered in the Riftfire wasteland may hold the key to understanding the mysterious forces now reshaping the Kingdom of Zaccaria.
For now, the fragments remain locked away under careful watch.
But if the scholars of the realm are correct, the strange crystals pulled from the fires of Bouldera may prove to be far more than simple stone.
BOULDERA, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — Panic spread through the southern city of Bouldera this week after a violent surge of mysterious energy, now widely referred to as Riftfire, tore through parts of the settlement, splitting streets and forcing hundreds of citizens to evacuate their homes.
Witnesses say the disturbance began shortly after sunset, when a deep rumbling echoed through the stone foundations of the city. Moments later, sections of the ground cracked open, sending dust and fragments of rock into the air as buildings tilted and walls fractured along the city’s lower districts.
“It came from beneath us,” said one shaken merchant who fled the central market square. “The ground glowed like molten glass for just a moment… and then it broke.”
Several major roads leading into Bouldera have since been rendered impassable, as jagged fissures now cut through the once-busy trade routes that connect the southern lands to the capital. Though no official casualty numbers have been released, royal messengers report that most residents were able to flee the worst-affected areas before the ground gave way.
Scholars traveling with the royal surveyors have begun examining the strange energy that appeared during the event. Early reports describe a faint glow lingering in the deepest cracks of the earth, evidence, they believe, that the phenomenon may be tied to the same unsettling disturbances recently reported near Lareth Hollow in the western lowlands.
While the causes remain unknown, some historians claim ancient records of the kingdom reference similar events in distant centuries past. These accounts describe moments when the land itself seemed to fracture under pressures no ordinary force could explain.
In response, the Houses of Zaccaria, the rising generation of leaders guiding the kingdom’s future, have begun mobilizing their efforts. Some Houses are reportedly seeking lost knowledge that might explain the strange energies now emerging across the realm. Others are focusing on reinforcing infrastructure and protecting vulnerable settlements should further disturbances occur.
For the citizens of Bouldera, however, the concern is immediate.
Families have gathered outside the city walls as royal engineers assess the damage and attempt to stabilize the ground beneath the southern districts. Trade has slowed, and many caravans have temporarily diverted their routes until the safety of the roads can be confirmed.
Yet despite the destruction, one fact has become clear to many observers:
The strange forces stirring beneath Zaccaria are no longer distant rumors.
They have reached the surface.
And if the events in Bouldera are any indication, the kingdom may soon face challenges far greater than anyone anticipated.
LARETH HOLLOW, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — What was once a quiet town in the western lowlands of the Kingdom of Zaccaria has become the center of growing concern as strange developments continue to ripple across the realm.
Residents of Lareth Hollow, long known for its orchards, stone bridges, and peaceful trade roads, have begun reporting unusual disturbances in recent weeks. According to local farmers and travelers, the ground itself seems restless, vibrating faintly at times, while deep cracks have begun appearing in the surrounding hills.
Though the Royal Council has issued no official statement, whispers among scholars suggest these events may be connected to a mysterious force that some have begun calling Riftenergy.
Witnesses describe faint glimmers of light beneath the soil in certain areas outside the town walls. Others claim that the air itself feels charged, as though the land is holding its breath before some unseen event.
“We’ve lived here for generations,” said one longtime resident near the western orchards. “The earth has always been steady. But lately… something feels wrong. The ground hums at night.”
Adding to the unease are reports that ancient records, long ignored or forgotten, have resurfaced in several regions of Zaccaria. Scholars studying these fragments believe they may reference disturbances similar to what is now being observed near Lareth Hollow.
Meanwhile, the Houses of Zaccaria, a rising generation of young leaders from across the kingdom, have begun responding to these developments. Some Houses are reportedly searching for lost knowledge that might explain the phenomenon, while others have turned their attention toward strengthening the realm’s defenses.
Observers say the choices these Houses make may influence how the kingdom responds to the growing mystery.
For now, life in Lareth Hollow continues cautiously. Markets still open at dawn, and traders still pass through the town gates—but conversations in taverns and along the roads have shifted.
The people of the lowlands are watching the earth beneath their feet more closely than ever before.
No one yet knows whether these disturbances are merely passing tremors… or the first signs of something far greater awakening beneath the Kingdom of Zaccaria.
BRACKENNIE, KINGDOM OF ZACCARIA — What began as a quiet year across the Kingdom of Zaccaria has quickly transformed into a moment of uncertainty and discovery.
Reports from across the realm suggest that the long-standing balance of the kingdom may be shifting. Ancient records have resurfaced, mysterious messengers have appeared at the gates of the noble Houses, and whispers of forgotten knowledge are spreading through the courts and villages alike.
In response, the young Houses of Zaccaria, led by newly-appointed groups of rising citizens, have been called upon to take their first steps into leadership. How will these new leaders and their Houses approach power, knowledge, and responsibility within the kingdom?
Some Houses chose to embrace the guidance of mysterious figures claiming to represent the ancient traditions of Zaccaria. Others approached these developments with caution, seeking to investigate the truth behind the sudden appearance of forgotten lore. Still others rejected the authority of outside voices altogether, choosing instead to rely on their own strength and independence.
These early choices have already begun shaping the path of the Houses in ways that may not be fully understood until much later in the story.
Meanwhile, citizens across the kingdom have begun taking on new roles within their Houses: scholars, explorers, diplomats, and defenders. Each contributes their talents to the growth of their domain.
As the Houses establish themselves, the realm itself has begun to respond. New opportunities have emerged for those willing to pursue knowledge, build alliances, and gather resources to strengthen their influence.
But observers warn that the kingdom’s changing atmosphere may signal deeper forces at work beneath the surface.
For now, the Houses continue their preparations, unaware that the choices made in these early days may determine the fate of Zaccaria in the trials yet to come.
One thing is clear:
The era of quiet stability in Zaccaria has ended.
And the rising generation must now decide what kind of kingdom they will inherit, and what kind of leaders they will become.
LAS VEGAS — In a classroom tucked inside Las Vegas High School, an unusual kingdom has quietly come to life.
Known as Zaccaria, the fictional realm serves as the stage for Zaccaria: Kingdom Rising, a year-long narrative game played by students studying French. Within this world, classes transform into noble Houses competing not merely for points, but for the future of the realm itself.
The game blends storytelling, strategy, and academic challenges into a sprawling campaign where students must guide their House through a series of decisions that affect the kingdom’s fate. Rather than passively reading a story, the students shape it.
Each House manages the growth of its domain through a system known as the Kingdom Tracker, which measures ten aspects of national strength — from military power and wealth to knowledge, prestige, and influence. As students participate in class, earn points, and complete challenges, their House’s standing in these categories rises or falls.
But the story of Zaccaria is far from peaceful.
Throughout the year, the Houses will face mysterious events, political dilemmas, and supernatural forces that threaten the stability of the realm. Their decisions determine alliances, unlock hidden advantages, and alter how the kingdom develops over time.
The choices made early in the campaign often echo months later, shaping future challenges in ways students rarely anticipate.
“The world reacts to them,” explained Mr. Bracken. “Students quickly realize that what they decide today may affect what happens much later.”
By the time the narrative reaches its final act, the Houses have built distinct identities based on their decisions and accomplishments. Some may emerge as powerful military leaders, others as masters of knowledge or diplomacy.
Ultimately, the year culminates in the Quest for the Goeller Cup, a fresh name of a similar look to the traditional playoff tournament where the six Houses compete head-to-head. The winner claims the ancient trophy of Zaccaria and crowns a new monarch — a student recognized as the most valuable contributor to their House’s victory.
Yet the competition is only part of the experience.
Supporters of the program say the real goal is engagement. The kingdom framework encourages students to participate actively in class, collaborate with their peers, and use the French language in meaningful ways.
In Zaccaria, every act of participation — speaking French, completing assignments, helping classmates — becomes part of the larger story.
And as the Houses of the realm prepare for another season of challenges, one thing is certain:
The fate of the Kingdom of Zaccaria will once again rest in the hands of its young citizens.
